You know when you've practically bunkered down around a wall and fear for your life when merely looking around the corner because two people at the end of the hallway have invisible self replenishing boxes of grenades.

That's one example of grenade spam.

Except that doesn't happen.

I hate how everyone complains that nades are overpowered. I have amazing grenade throws, and they will land in between the enemy's feet. But instead of killing them, it will pop them 9 feet into the air instead.

I usually get the kill anyway since their shield is down...but come on! I could make a compilation of times that happens if I really wanted to. But I have better things to waste render minutes on.

Agreed. All the changes are good and add variety. Do we really want another Halo 3? Just running around with one gun and no armor abilities? It's good that 343 wants to try something new. Do we really want the same thing for three more games?

Using grenades in every situation.
Sad part is, people in MP get kills that way.

This game has gone so downhill :(

Boltshot = mini shotgun

Getting grenade after grenade after grenade being thrown at you until the enemy gets a kill.
Cheap way to kill, especially when you're in a room and can't move.

Sounds like that's just textbook good use of grenades: bouncing them into a room because you can't shoot around corners.

Then why do I usually find myself huddling in a corner on a map muttering "make it stop mommy" in a 30 second to 60 second long barrage of grenades that seem endless?

Seriously, these people must get lucky with dead bodies nearby or something.

I was in that little recess on Reflection's top level across from the Sniper that will let you jump down to the bottom level (dunno the proper callout) and there were three enemies at Sniper. I kid you not, I counted twleve grenades that came at me in a span of about 10 seconds. Thankfully their aim was arocious so I only took about half a shield's worth of damage, but I was astounded at the sheer volume of grenades headed my way.

A group of enemies taking advantage of frags found on the map or on bodies is not the same as "an invisible self replenishing box of grenades". If you kill someone who was carrying grenades you deserve to take them for yourself and use them, just like you earned the weapons he was carrying.

Okay lets see 3 times 4 =12 so three people can have 12 grenades

  • 01.16.2012 2:29 PM PDT

Mathematically it makes sense, but seriously, wasting 12 grenades on one person? And not even getting the kill?

then all three of them have bad aim.

I said as much didn't I? I was just stating a situation that I think qualifies as "grenade spam".

so what would you suggest those ppl do? just stand there and give up while still having ample grenades?

There are plenty of things they could've done other than sit there and needlessly waste their grenades. Someone could've came and engaged me in a gun battle, for one. I mean, with all those grenades tossed, I HAD to be on somewhat low shields right? It makes sense. This was TU rules too so just a quick dash in melee woulkd've been enough to put me down.

  • 01.16.2012 4:18 PM PDT

in my definition for Grenuke Spam, its when someone sees you and their first instinct is to throw 2 nukes at you OR when you have a room under control and their team all goes outside the door and throws all their nukes in the room to either flush you out, or cause a huge explosion that you cannot dodge

i hear you, but why needlessly engage if you have enough grenades?

Seems like a waste of resources to me. It'd be like firing 2-3 rockets to kill one enemy or perhaps lasering a Mongoose in BTB when the enemy team was a Banshee up.

Someone just tossed 4 grenades at me and got a kill he clearly just outplayed me and is more skilled than me

In the time it takes to throw 4 nades you should have killed him or escaped. I know you're exaggerating, but ina situation like that you did get outplayed because you must be standing still in an obvious and easily grenadable position.

I don't mean to brag I don't mean to boast but I got hummus for these MINI TOASTS!

Randomly thrown grenades in the same place.

Randomly thrown grenades in the same place.

If it's random, then it's not hurting you. If it's hurting you, then it's not random. What's the complaint?

Never-ending trail of 'nades.

People only have two.
As far as I can tell there is no definition of "spam", just skillful use that people on the receiving end can't cope with.

That was true in Halo 3, but in Reach the grenades are broken.

but grenades are not really equal too rockets or the spartan laser.

you can tell when someone is placing grenades or just throwing them for the sake of throwing them

I take my time to teabag those who do the latter. It's quite obvious when I've outskilled another player when they slump over their left trigger, totally forgoing their primary weapon (rifle, or whatever).

God I wish players would place grenades rather than spam them - It would be much more tolerable, and more than 100% of my deaths in Sword Base aka the Yellow Lift Room would not have been from some noob who can't look at an enclosed space without automatically thinking "LOTS OF EXPLOSIONS, YUP".
