There is a thin line between insanity and genius, i would put myself right in the middle and i enjoy every second of it.

This is probably a question asked many times! I don't even know if it's worth questioning, but why is it that a spartan can fall from space and live, but not a 30+ ft jump? I understand that they can't touch water, with all the electronics and all, not to mention a lot of weight from the armor itself, but why is there fall damage in all Halo games except Halo 3? Is it that the armor got more advanced over the progression in the war? Curious... I would like to point out that I actually do expect some annoyed comments due to the fact of some people hearing this alot, but I just ask for a respectful response. Just answer or don't answer, all I'm looking for. Thank you.

CE/ODST/Reach: Mark V/ODST Battle Armor, didn't have auto-biofoam injectors (hence the health bar)

2/3: Mark VI had auto-biofoam injectors which sealed any wound automatically (that's why you have no health bar in Halo 2 and 3 and that's why there's no fall damage).

As for the water, well, it would be a game breaker if players got into the water and started to kill other players that way cause the rest wouldn't see them and the likes. I think they should modify that however, that way people would be able to make underwater maps (imagine an underwater base made in forge that'd be awesome) and would have more freedom.

"You are a good person, and people say nice things about you"

Haha, completely true!

Take into consideration scale, what looks like a 30 ft drop is likely 50ft or so, and considering your spartan absorbs all the energy instead of rolling or sending it through your ankles and out your heels (parkour technique's B) ) then I think the health system is reasonable.

If you fall wrong, a 15 foot drop will kill you, so a spartan losing some health makes sense from 50ft. The health system is basically a way of saying "yeah you busted your ankles to dust, but we're going to allow you to still walk".

Also bullet's don't work well underwater/shooting into/shooting out of water anyway, so it would slow down gameplay by adding 100% realism, and would be unrealistic and slightly unfair to allow guns to work underwater, so I think it's best what they did in killing you instantly.

The only reason Noble 6 survived the fall from space was because he had some sort of parachute or something.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

He still survived, he could have turned into a pile of puree but he didn't.

prozeyic

When Noble 6 jumped they had a re-entry pack. That supposedly saved them from death.

I don't think spartans can't be in water because of their suits. It's just game mechanics. In Halo 2 the Chief jumped into the water and met the gravemind. At least... I think he was in water. Now that I think about it I don't know the arbiter was talking underwater... I'm confused.

Ya I totally accidentally linked that random gamertag. I don't know what it is. But my real gamertag is curb st0mpd if you wanna check out my stats.

A lot of times game developers will put things in games that may not be realistic but are there for improved gameplay.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Yeah no. On Reach a couple of Spartan II's died from a suborbital jump, and many more were severely wounded from the fall. And the others survived because they were lucky and were able to slow down with the tall trees on Reach or by falling into any body of water.

I understand that they can't touch water, with all the electronics and all

Yeah, they can go into water. If they can go into space, the armor should obviously allow for getting into water. Blue Team on Earth had a salt water dunking. The MC had to jump of the Temple in Delta Halo to escape getting vaporized.

but why is there fall damage in all Halo games except Halo 3?

Halo CE = MJOLNIR Mark V (Fall damage)
Halo 2 = MJOLNIR Mark VI (No fall damage)
Halo 3 = MJOLNIR Mark VI (No fall damage)
Halo 3 ODST = ODST Ballistic armor (Fall damage)
Halo Reach = MJOLNIR Mark V (Fall damage)
