There is a thin line between insanity and genius, i would put myself right in the middle and i enjoy every second of it.

No longer discussed: Why is it on "Tip of the Spear" ( Halo: REACH )the mission is to take down 1 of 3 Covenant Spires? What good would that do? You destroyed one... good for you, what about the other 2? What were they planning then? Could anyone explain it to me? I'm very confused about it.

Excuse previous topic, it has changed to why noble team did what they did.

Ex: Carter and the scarab
Ex: Kat and the sniper
Ex: Emile and the motion tracker

They were going to destroy the other two most likely, but a 27 kilometers long ship just de-cloaked and raped their Frigate, so I guess that made them stop.

Or maybe they just got tired and decided to leave it for another day...

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

The situation escalated and the Spires no longer seemed like a Spartan necessary mission.

They pulled out of the blast zone for the Frigate's strike, then the LNOS appear, killing the Grafton and maybe even the Saratoga.

Fairly sure after that they weren't going to continue charging :P.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

*Facepalm*

Are you serious?

I think common logic, something that you obvious lack in great measure, would state that after having taken down the first Spire, NOBLE TEAM would have moved on to the other Spires to neutralize them too.

The only reason they couldn't continue their mission was because LNoS revealed itself and blew the Grafton to hell. There was no way the Saratoga was going to be able to take on, alone, the LNoS. All UNSC forces got the -blam!- out of there as they saw they were abhorrently outgunned with the presence of the Carrier.

Well, I just imagined it take a while for them to kill 3 spires... I dont know, it was just a thought.

  • 01.17.2012 1:53 PM PDT

Or maybe it was all those scorpion tanks and warthogs loaded with men that where heading to the other 2 spires?

Of ALL of Noble Teams idiotic tactics, you question THIS one? Not how Emile scratched out his Motion Tracker? Or how Kat ran out into the PERFECT Sniper killzone yelling with NO shields activated? What about Carter ramming a fully armed gunship into a Scarab instead of just shooting it?

I don't know how you can "scratch out" something that's inside the armor, but regardless of that technology fails, it's not like the Spartan II's didn't have problems with their motion trackers. Like in the Unyielding Hierophant where in a temple John couldn't track a Brute on his motion tracker, even though it was like a pillar away from him.

Now, Kat, you must be dumb not to realize she was running for her life, just like any other member of Noble team seeing how, oh what was it? oh yeah a cruiser was glassing the area next to them and they were trying to get to a nuclear refuge, and she was talking to Six, she wasn't shouting.

and Carter did shoot the Scarab, but the only thing that did was distract the Scarab enough to have it turn its head for a second before turning back towards Emile and Six. as they both put it in their last words to each other:

Emile-A239: "Commander, you don't have the firepower!"
Carter-A259 (COM): "I've got the mass."

It was that or losing Cortana.

A: Emile didn't damage his motion tracker. Nor did the skull affect his vision in any way.

B: You forget that a Spartan can be yelling at the top of their lungs, but if their helm comm is set a certain way, they will approve to be silent to everybody outside themselves/squad. Also, the rest of the squad ran through the exact same zone with no shields.

C: Fully armed with a single nose mounted gun. The pelican had no missiles, therefore was not fully armed for a gunship role. If he had gone to simply shoot at it, it'd ignore him (as he and the pelican is no threat merely using the guns) and proceed to turn Emile and Six into two burn marks.

Carter's options:

1. Shoot cliff out using nose-mounted MG

2. Shoot back off of Scarab, then shoot generator

3. Be a retard and kill yourself

And Kat, even if she was running for her life, could have AT LEAST heard the Phantom hovering above. The thing is pretty damn loud.

I hate it, too, when writers choose drama over boring logic. I want my stories to be flawless and without emotion, dammit!

He shot at the scarab and it did absolutely no damage, in fact what it did was get its attention for less than two seconds before it turned back to Six, besides in the time it would have taken him to properly place the pelican in a position where he could shoot at it's back, they would have been a dark spot on the ground just like Dae said.

  • 01.17.2012 3:45 PM PDT

Also, for fun in halo 3, see how long it takes using a hornets normal guns (no rockets) to destroy the back of a Scarab.

Probably a long time.

Edit: Shoot cliff out? Yeah, that's a time effective option. NOT.

Chief had no trouble tracking it. He knew where it moved to and was in the process of priming a grenade to root it out, then it striaght up charged him. Emile just stood there and apparently didn't notice the motion contact coming up behind him.

1. Shoot the cliff out. With a MG. Shoot the cliff out. How does one shoot the cliff out with a MG?

2. Unless the Scarab decides to use that massive AA gun on its back to shoot the damaged Pelican and the Scarab also decides not to just shoot Six and Emile and then focus on Carter it seems alright.

3. Take out a superior foe the quickest, you mean?

It is a bit harder to hear when you have you team talking loudly over the comm and you are preoccupied with getting to a shelter before a ship atomizes you.

Couldn't Carter have pointed out the scarab before 6 and Emile walked right into view?
Carter:"Hey guys, there is a scarab up ahead so just chill in the caves for a second and let it pass"
Emile:"Roger"

Scarabs are deployed out of atmosphere and land on the ground, it was probably there for 5 seconds before emile and six turned the corner and carter warned them
