Perhaps Bungie is trying to inject its (or Double Aught's) idea of the "eternal warrior" first introduced near the end of Marathon: Infinity into the Halo universe when Cortana says her words about knowing (maybe the Master Chief's) past, present, and future. A similar message in the end screen of Infinity said things about knowing you in he past through the eons as a timeless enigma, always appearing when the circumstances were dire and always prevailing throughout all of time (sounds like the Chief to me). Through the game, the eternal warrior (who appears to be you) was referenced to being Beowulf, Achilles, Roland and many other warriors in previous lives throughout time. The end screen also said that whoever was speaking knew of you and your past and who you really are: destiny. Maybe Bungie is connecting this idea to Halo from Marathon in that the Master Chief is yet another embodiment of the eternal warrior like the security guard from Marathon when Cortana says she knows of his past and future, that he too is the destiny to bring the world into order again. Just another theory...

This apple is brown, and rotten. This orange on the other hand, is in relatively average shape. So the orange is definitely the preferable option.
----------You can't compare apples and oranges. You're so dumb.

Do you have any idea what your talking about what so ever?

1) That Roland beowulf charecter was an AI

2) Beowulf is the name of an ONI AI

3) Archiles was the greek hero from the trojan wars. He killed hector who was given the sword durandal from his father king priam. Archiles supposebly killed hector and took the sword as a prize. After the greeks defeated the trojans the ship the odessey left for greece but because they didn't offer posidon and offering they went threw a numberous of things such as a giant cyclops encounter.

Here is a quote from halos backstory from xbox.com

"2362: THE ODYSSEY
The Odyssey launched on January 1, 2362. The lead ship in a fleet of colony vessels, the Odyssey—laden with troops and terraforming gear—spearheaded the colonization of a new world. This sparked the first wave of human expansion beyond the confines of the Solar System.
"

So as we see halo is before marathon and 190 years before halo takes place durandal was in the halo unvierse. How ever his location is unknown now. Maybe when archiles was defeated he scrammed.

So obviously master chief is not a human soldier an a ONI AI at once. Also durandal was talking about recon number 54 the main charecter in marathon.

So what have we learned? Durandal (god) is an AI , Thoth ( an AI in Marathon who is an egyptian god) are ai's. Also Beowulf , archiles and gilamesh were all DEMI gods ( part gods all were 3/4 god) and are AIs. We also know two ONI ai's share the same name as fallen angels ( Demons). So now we know Gods and Demons in the halo-maraverse are AIs.

GhostVirus, I do not think you read my post carefully, and also, the sword Durandal is not from the Iliad, but from medieval lore (involving Roland, not Achilles). I did not say the two games had anything to do with each other except Bungie's idea of the eternal warrior, so please do not condemn me and "Not knowing what I am talking about" just yet.

That, or Bungie has a penchance (is that the right word?) for naming their AI's after prominent historical/legendary characters/items. After all, Durandal is named after the sword Durendal, and Cortana after Curtana (AKA Courtaine, or something of the like).
