I attempt to accommodate well written posts in the most fitting manner I choose. Sometimes I may agree, disagree, or not have a stance on the matter. Either way it goes, I mean no hostility. Sometimes it just turns out that way, regardless of my intent.

The point is that people can say something and be ridiculed for it. Likewise, people may choose to hush and still be judged in that fashion.

I choose to look at everyone here with initially having good intent, which solves many trivial issues such as this.

It is what it is, and there is room for improvement, but wanting is sometimes better than having.

My Best Bungie moment: finally beating all the Halo games on solo legendary.
My Worst Bungie moment: not seeing giant stuffie grunts in the Bungie store.

It's the internet: most people have short attention spans and like to voice their opinions.
So the ideal thread is not a long, thought-out discussion, it is a short question or comment that people can read quickly before enthusiastically adding their own opinion.
That's why the Community forum is often a good place for a real discussion (until ninjas derail your thread).

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

This is not a problem with Bungie.net. It is what the internet in general.

As was so eloquently stated in a thread a couple of weeks ago.

"The problem is that there is no real problem."

EDIT: skilphil I remember that thread and it was glorious. You wouldn't happen to have a link to it would you?

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

No. I don't agree with you. It's not all 'sad'. Qho cares if not everybody replies with well thought-out answers based upon carefully reading your text? A lot of peple do, a lot of people don't.

  • 01.17.2012 8:50 AM PDT

The world is full of mysteries, and shares too few of the answers required. An example of which, is how did I end up in the Brute Zone?

Sorry I just got bored and skimmed through your post. No, but seriously, people should read through everything before they state their opinion. Not sure about banning though...

  • 01.17.2012 9:17 AM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Well, I'm going to read your first paragraph, make this post, then read the rest and see how well I do. You'll have to just keep me on the honour system here.

Yes, most forum users will choose short, rapid-fire information threads over longwinded ideas any day. We grew up in the age of instant gratification, we have no attention span. Generally users don't attend the forums to think about complex issues which demand more than a paragraph to articulate, it's just for short sound-bites of discussion on something simple. Which is why the "rubbish," threads thrive, there's more interest for their compact nature.

As usual, Bill Watterson has made a relevant statement: "As far as I'm concerned, if something is so complicated that you can't explain it in 10 seconds, then it's probably not worth knowing anyway."
-Calvin (A child of the age of instant gratification.)

That's the mentality.

EDIT: Not bad. My short attention span didn't do me in this time at least.

If it's something I'm interested in I'll read the entire article. However, 80% of the time I'll read select paragraphs and skim over the boring ones.

Problem is that some are really legendary and deserve to live. Maybe a second bar next to top forum topics that is Recommended Topic. Ninjas can see if these topics are worth checking out. They stay up for 20 days, then added into a history databank of interesting and worth commenting topics

Carpe Diem - Carpe Coffee

Astronomy Picture of the Day!

I do my best to read the entire OP of each thread, and the majority of posts that follow it, but what people seem to forget is the power of conciseness as said earlier. Fluff in posts is easily the number one reason why I would skim read an OP, followed by how long I've been here and how many similar topics I've seen.

It's difficult to not want to just fill in the blanks and start typing a post when you combine factors like that. These forums are a two way street between thread creators and repliers, both groups need to put in their effort to communicate most effectively.

Most of the users here could care less on long posts

Well, how much less should they care?

I could care less about your opinion

About how much less could you care?

Thank you. This drives me insane.

I always read the OP.. Unless it's a wall of text without any sentence structure.

No offence, but people are here to relax from working.
Then how can you realistically expect people to read the long posts you're referring to?
Reading is considered hard work? If so, we should tell all of the fiction writers that their purpose of writing is useless.

When you read something you like, it isn't hard at all. It doesn't take work. That is why you read about people reading a newspaper casually by a fireplace. That implies that there is little to no work. Which is exactly the same for this site. It takes little to no work to read. People just have very small attention spans.

Also, not directed at you dazaro, but a select few people have already proven my point in this thread that they don't read the whole OP.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

*Reads title and skims through OP

Honestly, when it reachs 8 paragraphs I start skimming.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

The problem is that some users post to contribute, pwhile others post to be seen.

If you're reading this, you need to stop stalking me. If you can't stop stalking me, you might as well go here.

I'll keep this short: it's the poster's responsibility to insure that their post is worth reading. Pretty obvious, isn't it? It's not the fault of the reader if you dragged on for too long, made a distracting error, or committed one of a variety of other mistakes that would result in the loss of their attention.

It's your problem, not theirs. Know your audience. If you have no regard for who's reading your post, you don't have much room to be angry if it misses its mark.

It's your fault.

For Carnage Apply Within

They think that they have pacified Ireland. They think that they have purchased half of us and intimidated the other half. They think that they have foreseen everything, think that they have provided against everything; but the fools, the fools, the fools! — they have left us our Fenian dead, and while Ireland holds these graves, Ireland unfree shall never be at peace

It can be obnoxious, but it has potential to Spawn conversation.

  • 01.18.2012 4:14 PM PDT

I don't know what you noticed, but it makes me sad too...

Jokes aside, I completely agree with you. More people need to read the OP and fully understand what point is trying to be spread. Replying to certain posts and not discussing the topic at hand is pretty worthless in my opinion.

Edit: And don't think I'm trying to imply that simply "quoting" someone about something they said isn't wrong. Just if that original post received said quote from a different user, and this original post is not relevant to the topic at hand, then I'd assume that the reply to the quote is also a worthless post.
