Subject: A Democratic Bungie.net

I'm sure we've all thought of this idea at one point or another, but I decided today to make a thread about it (shocker).

Say for a moment that the whole totalitarian state that we have going on here (which is understandable and completely logical) was not. Say we were allowed to pick our own Moderators -- it is to my understanding that there was once a sort of application system for this type of thing -- every once in a while, say, every 3 years or whenever deemed necessary.

Would you go for this? Who would you vote for? How would you suggest a system like this would work? Do you think it would work at all?

No, this is the internet, people wouldn't take the elections seriously. I'd probably be one of those people, seeing as whenever i vote it's always for the Mickey Mouse party. And then, we'd end up having some randomly chosen spammer or weirdo running the joint.

I play for fun and armory completion. :)

I would be unlikely to pick people who I think will ban me when I break the rules. It is a conflict of interest, so no, I do not think this will work.

Democratic voting would result in the most popular users being chosen, not those who possess the greatest ability to do the job.

Hello, I'm Mr AwesomePizza. I like pizza and I'm a man. Reasoning for the name. I like to listen to the classics of music, write poetry, play video games, and much much more. I'm always down for a nice chat, so please hit me up for some conversation.

I think it is best that we have our current system. Doing it your way would could turn bad if an omega troll decided to run for moderation and just decides to make millions of accounts to vote for him. That and it'll just end up a popularity contest. People would just vote for their friends, even if they were the most stupidest people on the site.

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

Doesn't seem fit for Bungie.net. So, no.

  • 01.16.2012 9:47 PM PDT

Spam is okay, as long as it is not excessive.
Retardation is frowned upon, but somewhat acceptable.

Bungie.net has and probably always will be Totalitarian.

Just be glad it isn't outright Fascist.

God, it'd be pitiful if it ever came to that.

No, I don't think it'll work, because there are few users who I think will not cheat and make a well informed and unbiased decision, and that the rest of the users will still vote for those they think will do good based on cover value, those that they like and those that they think will give them more power (or just not ban them as much).

I don't have enough time to find a good candidate to vote for, when my vote isn't really going to make a difference in the forums.

In short, how it is is best.

They don't track IP's on bungie.net so the vote doesn't rock so much here. I prefer ruthless tyranny anyways.

The tide is turning, brothers! Let us take our kingdom back!

I think I prefer keeping power away from the less trustworthy here.

This world wants to drag you down... And the weight, that guilt they want to hang around your neck, you don’t have to carry it one more step. You think they won’t let you rest, but it’s not up to them. It never was.

This.

I suspect llamas are secretly wizards. I <3 poptarts n' milk. I like me. Grimick is defined as: a logical parodox, the act of funnaling a potato down your throat, and a deliciously flavored muffin (with pecons and blueberries). Norway is the Swedish word for 'moron'. My sister has cancer, so i get to use handicap parking and cut small children in line at Disneyland.

"Don't eat doughnuts on thin ice."

"The pancake, my friend, has officially been flipped."

Well first of all I don't think that would end well, but more importantly, whats wrong with the current system? I think that the current selection process has resulted in a good amount of impartial, dedicated mods. The system doesn't just work: It produces.

Why are you reading my signature? Who actually opens these things and reads them!

And as always, SEND ME A PM. Please. Or really bad things will happen to you.

I would create 5000 alt accounts and then elect myself as moderator and do all sorts of naughty moderator things.

But why exactly would you break the rules? If you did, you'd deserve to be banned.
It's no different than voting for a president, who would prosecute you if you violate the law.

I don't think he's implying that we should switch the system. He's just brainstorming the possibilities and how the interaction would vary based on operation.
Other than that, yes I'd assume that both he and I would agree with you.
