Subject: A Democratic Bungie.net

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

More like a totalitarian, but you're point is valid.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

And so someone with an army of 100 alts has a voice 100 times louder than a member who has put in the time and created a single account that they value? Pffffft.

Democracy on the Interwebs is a bit of a "if I care more, or have more free time, I can shout louder than you can!" and as such, is a neat concept, but a terrible reality. It's not the "tyranny of the majority" that you get with an actual democracy, it is a "tyranny of the determined and/or tech savvy".

Well I guess you have to "apply" to vote in a real democracy so it could be done here.

Before the argument is made by someone that older accounts get more of a count than newer ones, I'm going to curtail it.

Once you make an argument that certain accounts get a weighted vote, the whole system collapses. Where's the cut off? What about accounts with recent discipline action? Groups of "old" accounts will pop up "selling" their mass vote.

A democratic system in an online community comprised of far too many vultures, peafowls, and hyenas is system designed to fail.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

Here is something that could happen:

Idiot troll runs for Master Moderator

4chan guys see this

He wins by a landslide

Massive thread deletions and perma bans ensue

This is one of the MANY ways your idea would fail. Its a great idea, but it's just far too abusable of a system.

To Make Posts is Glorious

Some threads will get posts before others and it is the duty of the Leadership to ensure that posts are made that best suit the public welfare.

Way too much effort for no real reason.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

I would vote to organize a squad of elite scuba divers. These scuba squads would be in charge of fighting wars against other game sites. I would lobby for ninjas to be abolished... and a new army of pirates to be formed. The old ninjas would be sent in a rocket to the sun. If you all voted on it. Which im sure you will.

As long as we can go at night (I don't want to burn up), I am in.

Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of internet government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of internet society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated internet wealth of a diminishing number of internet producers.

While internet commentary will eventually ruin the world I'm glad that I live in the real world for the time being!

No thanks bro, I'm having a great time sacrificing one o my action figures to the Forum Overlords on my Bungie-commissioned ziggurat.

In all seriousness, as others have said, the idea fails because of the possibilities of alts overshadowing actual votes and because it would quickly become a popularity contest.

In true American fashion I'd forget it was election day, miss the vote, and gripe for 3 years over the elected mods. IMHO, the current dictatorship works.

In true British fashion I'd sit at home in a wife beater and my undies with a bottle of whiskey, drink myself to insanity, vote for spartain ken, and gripe for 3 years over the elected mods.

Oh, this thread's still alive? What a happy surprise.

It seems that the opinions on this are overall the same: "no." I agree that it's best the way it is now, and Recon brings up a good point. Perhaps when alts are impossible to make (if that's even plausible) we'll see something like this.

If that ever does occur, then perhaps forum polls can be for something other than mere "entertainment purposes".

But for now, they aren't a serious source of data.

There are few users who I think will make a well informed and unbiased decision, and the rest of the users will still vote for those they think will do good based on cover value, those that they like and those that they think will give them more power (or just not ban them as much).

Real account.

Join me as we make new friends from different communities!

If you assign every letter of the alphabet a number, a is 1, b is 2, etc., and you take all of the values of the word "MATH", and add them, you get 42. So math is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

No, but perhaps something like this could be done amongst the Ninjas -- privately, in HFCS.

That is, if it already isn't...
