In the early times of most online multiplayer, most of those who inhabited the servers/networks of the numerous gaming communities across the internet often strove to out do one another, To beat the other talented, competitive players in an attempt to climb the ranked ladder in hopes that one day that they may become the best within their preferred community. It was bliss in a way, we all had the same goal, we all knew what we ha to do to achieve this goal, it was almost perfect, something everyone could enjoy, casual or competitive. Why? because it was all fair, it was all balanced. But, there was an underlying problem that lurked in the shadows.
The current generation. Most of them aren't all bad, but a lot of them are. Most of these... well, lets call them "Derp casuals" for the lack of a better name. These Derp Casuals were a massive group of kids that thought they could all one day become game developers, they thought they could get the experience for this profession just by playing games. Retarded? in some respects, yes. after playing away thousands of hours of their lives, and doing horribly against the old competitive community, They all eventually came to the same conclusion that they could "help" the game developers in producing their new games. They took to the game developers and began to complain about how unfair, and boring the current play style is, despite the fact that they were wrong on all grounds. They began to suggest their ideas, ideas that contained the concepts of "super" powers characters could use,(armor lock, jet pack, ect.) powers that could "liven" the game up.
Over time, the populace of the "derp casuals" grew to such a level that it blotted out the competitive community almost entirely. Because of this, Games today are being dulled down to appeal to these "derp casuals." and with this came an unbalance within the community. The pleas of the derp casuals were far louder, and far more frequent than the competitive community. Thus they suffered for it in the long run. Games today have become so casualized that the competitive community had become aliened from the games that had come to know and love. Because of this, the competitive community had either dispersed, or were assimilated into the Derp Casual community, Their pleas becoming ever more silent as the Derp Casual community grew.
So now here we are, The competitive community is thinning out where only a few hundred remain. Games are still being directed towards the Derp Casuals for 1 reason: They are the majority.
Yes, an example of this series of events is, in fact halo Reach, or Default reach. if you were to see the plalyists population, you will see that the most populated playlists are Team slayer, SWAT, and living dead. The rest of reach is nearly barren.
Team slayer: has the super powers and the "fair derp casual game play mechanics"
SWAT: has the easy point, easy kill mechanic. A quick game for these Derp casuals to claim superiority over other Derp casuals, and claiming to be awesome at the game, Or "MLG PRO"
Living dead: has the over powered, one sided game type that the Derp casuals once again claim that it is "fair" because every one will get a chance to play as a human.
Anything with a TU update is the work of the Pure Casuals. They all now have a place to call their own within this game. unfortunately, for the Competitive players, we only have 2, playlists. Though for some of the more hardcore competitive players, there is truly only one playlist for them, and even that isn't perfect. For it lacks a ranking system.
That is the Derp casual mentality.
I wanted to ask you all a question to go along with this post.
Which community are you apart of?
Derp casual, or Competitive/Casual.
TL;DR: The current generation community screwed this game over, and will probably screw most of the other games over in the future.
