Subject: quit ban needs revision

So, yesterday my network connection was awful for whatever reason. I lagged out of a couple games, but i didnt think much of it. I thought the connection would strengthen eventually, and that the lag was just a transient issue. Thankfully, it was. I managed to do fairly well the rest of the day.

Fast forward the entire day to about 11PM, I get matched up in ZB slay with these three other dudes, and weird things start happening in the game. My spartan starts swapping everything she comes across lol, so i told the people in the room with me of my troubles, and that my controller must need replacement.

At that point, this kid on my team starts trying to tell me to "not interrupt his conversation with the other two people". So im like whatever dude, youre a little b***h, etc. And I wasnt about to play with some rude little f**k who acts tough behind a microphone, so i bail on the match to find some polite, mature people who would make my game pleasant, and not full of irrelevant, distracting banter. AND I GET QUIT BANNED.

out of like 3500 games, i have one day of -blam!- connections and people and its ban-worthy?

its just 10 minutes, but still. thats a broken system lol.

It's not broken, looks like it was doing it's job after reading your OP. Infact, it needs to be harsher.

Inheritor #156 :p

I think the quit ban needs to be harsher and if you quit 1-2 games you need to be banned for 10 minutes. You're not only effecting your team but the other team as well as you're making the game slower. I hate playing a game of BTB where 3-6 players quit out within 4 minutes of the game starting and you're left with 2-3 players vs 8. Those kids who quit only quit because they're afraid of the other team or were getting dominated or don't like the map/gametype and deserve a quit ban.

If it's your connection what's dropping you than you still deserve it, fix your connection because you're still effecting the other players in the game even if you aren't intentionally doing it.

If you really have to quit to go do something else the 10 minute ban wont effect you because you're doing something else right?

my point is that i did nothing to warrant a ban. I played like a polite team player for hours on end, with only one voluntary quit. I even made a few new friends yesterday.

and bookshelf, dont be a douche.

Yes you did. You lagged out a lot, it's no different than actually quitting.

wasnt verbatim, but you get the idea. I was a tad more caustic in my delivery last night.

Having a bad connection that removes you from games and continuing to play is still bad. It doesn't matter what excuse you have for why you quit, to your team, you still quit on them, making the game far less enjoyable.

If I have a car that fails to pass inspection, I can't drive it (...and get caught) or bad things will happen; there is no excuse. If you have an internet connection that can't get you into a full game and you try to play with it, you can't cover yourself with "my internet sucks."

  • 01.17.2012 11:44 AM PDT

99.99 percent of the time, i am a player who stays through entire games, team plays, and enjoys the game. I think that before banning someone they should look into what happened. I play halo all day everyday, and never quit. it just seemed so goofy to ban me over the 121347342141212 gratuitous quitters i have come across since reach came out.

I also never said it was anyone's fault bookshelf.

You lagged out of games because of your crappy connection.

How is that anyone else's fault?

dude...u new here?

This is a video game, not a car. If a car doesnt pass inpection, one must repair it before it is legally allowed back into the public space.

A network connection is random, as has been made evident by my lagging out yesterday, and then suddenly having an excellent connection for the rest of the day. One cant honestly know if they are going to lag before they play.

PS: "my internet sucked for a little while" is the overall point i made in the op.

No, ive lurked for a few years. But the question of why he feels the need to be a douche is a valid one. perhaps he's trying to be funny and doesnt know how.

Always up for REACH customs!

You established a pattern of leaving games early, the quit ban picked you up and gave you a time out so you would stop ruining games for others until your connection "got better". Works as intended.

  • 01.17.2012 11:56 AM PDT

fallacious argument by over-simplification.

The quit ban was put in place to adress people who consciously, and chronically quit. I dont feel it is all to fair to punish me for something I had no control over. believe me, if there was something i could have done to avoid lagging out, i would have done it.

I will continue to defend my one quit though. None of you would have wanted to play with that kid.

So you got banned for a little while.

QUIT BAN MUST BE BROKEN.

Boltshot = mini shotgun

Why play the game if you know you have a crappy connection and may get quit banned?
And if someone is annoying you, mute him or put your mic option on mute.
Edit: Jeez, whining over a 15 minute quit ban. Big deal.

It's no big deal.

It's not the intent of the quitter that's the problem, it's the effect of the quitter on the games that he ruins.

You could have just muted that kid, that's no excuse either.

I 'established' nothing, I was kicked out of these games by the game itself. You have to realize, when i say "lag out" i dont just mean my ping was at 300000000, and i was too slow to connect.
Everyone would 'quit', and my game would end. My 'connection got better' (people stopped 'quitting' from my end) before the ban, and i/everyone else didnt 'quit' for hours on end.

I did quit once at midnight, and thats when i get popped for being an indiscriminate quitter. It just doesnt add up. You can keep trying to -blam!- on me. But something is still off here. I feel the quit ban is a good thing, but this was a mis-implementation of a good thing.

Maybe if you lagged out of two or three games in a row you should have stopped playing Matchmaking for a bit, since you knew your connection was responsible for repeatedly ruining people's games?

Were you given a warning before the quitter ban? Have you ever gotten a warning or a quitter ban in the past?

Then they should call it the lag/quit/disconnection ban. especially if all of those things count towards it.

"You could have just muted him". I could have also just played rumble pit. But i wanted to play ZB slayer with a polite team of mature individuals with microphones. Hell, i even set 'search restrictions'. a joke, they are.
