1v1 in Halo just doesn't work at all. All one needs to do is get to a power weapon first and keep his eyes open. The structure of gameplay that Halo utilizes is largely dependent on the idea that multiple people are able to work together (even in a free-for-all) to take down opponents with heavy weapons. Unless 1v1 is set up in horrifically scaled-down maps with restricted or blocked zones and no weapons on the map, which would be extraordinarily boring, it's not going to work.

First of all the whole point of octagon is spawn killing and to be constantly shooting/fighting someone, and secondly that would remove all strategy and decision making.

Personally, I would think that with ZB and teensy weensy maps, it wouldn't be too bad.

Ideal:
MLG settings, Sanc and Zealot, first to fifteen.

What we would get:
Default settings, Boardwalk, Hemorrhage, Abridged, first to fifty, fifteen minute time limit.

Its failed far too many times for me to hold out any hope of it ever succeeding. If I want a 1v1, I'll log into Quake Live.
