Subject: was Halo 3: ODST a big disappointment

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

It has the best-written story in the series interwoven with the Audio Logs, the best music, ambience and atmosphere. Not to mention the best Firefight and emphasis towards relying on teamwork.

So no, the only people who could have been disappointed would be those who have no appreciation for artistic values and good stories...

It was nowhere near what it could have been.

Can you define what ODST "could have been"?

It was an 8 month project designed to tell a more grounded human story about a lone trooper trying to survive and find his squad in an occupied city and tie in Halo 2's Earth segment with Halo 3.

I'm pretty sure it accomplished this purpose.

Halo 2 wasn't anywhere near what it could have been, yet it was still fantastic. What it "could have been" does not necessarily reflect the goals of the company making the game, mostly just the hopes of the community.

Bungie has never created characters aside from the original trilogy which I felt attached to (Noble team, and ODST squad); for a character driven story, it does not succeed if the characters are bland.

I wasn't disappointed with ODST at all.

It was arguably Bungie's best Campaign, FF was awesome as long as you had friends with good internet connections and it came with the entire Halo 3 multiplayer experience. What isn't there to like?

no it was a very good game.

problems-
no matchmaking firefight
no multiplayer(other than firfight or campain)
no flaming recon..

Storyline sucked. Characters were cliche. Campaign was cliche with repeating levels in only one little area. Enemies sucked, not challenging enough. ONE frikken Scarab, really, whereas Reach had like seven and Halo 3 had four. This game could've been so much better, but in my opinion... Reach > ODST.

no matchmaking firefight

As an 8 month project, there was no time to implement matchmaking for Firefight.

no multiplayer(other than firfight or campain)

Because it's an expansion, the multiplayer was designed to suppliment Halo 3, as it was still [one of] the most popular game[s] on XBL at the time. Giving ODST a multiplayer and then releasing Reach a year after would cause the Halo population to stagnate, people would be playing 3 games online.

no flaming recon..

This is not a problem, this is an armour permutation... The fact that Recon was included due to overwhelming demand was generous enough.

I don't know why people make such a big deal out of this. When Firefight matchmaking was introduced for Reach, less than maybe 2000 people played it. I get that Reach's Firefight was a different experience, but I still don't think matchmaking in ODST would have made any difference.

Storyline sucked.

It definitely didn't. The story was expertly crafted with interlinking stories from the Audio Logs, the structure was similar to that of Dante's Inferno which gave a new dynamic to the way the story was told.

Characters were cliche.

And I suppose you're going to say that all the other characters in the Halo series are completely original then?

Campaign was cliche with repeating levels in only one little area.

Repeating levels? ... Er, no. Every one of the flashback missions was in a different location with a different objective which you were [mostly] free to do however you liked. The only repetition in the game is a few of the areas in Mombasa Streets.

Enemies sucked, not challenging enough.

The AI for the Brutes was perfect in ODST, a blend between Halo 2 and 3. They were finally a suitable replacement for the Elites. Hunters were absolute nightmares to fight on higher difficulties, as were Drones and Jackal Snipers. The enemies were more than a match for the player.

ONE frikken Scarab, really, whereas Reach had like seven and Halo 3 had four.

LOLWUT? You never fight any Scarabs in Reach at all, you see them yet they're only ever in the backdrop. In ODST you actually fight one...

This game could've been so much better, but in my opinion... Reach > ODST.

Your opinion is nothing more than convoluted drivel which just can't be taken seriously. Your service record says you've played 7 games of ODST, only 1 of which was a campaign game.

An opinion, one I do not agree with.

And I suppose you're going to say that all the other characters in the Halo series are completely original then?

No, I greatly dislike Master Chief and a majority of the other SPARTAN-IIs as well, but not as much as I loathe the ODST.

Repeating levels? ... Er, no. Every one of the flashback missions was in a different location with a different objective which you were [mostly] free to do however you liked. The only repetition in the game is a few of the areas in Mombasa Streets.

Mobasa Streets was the exact same level... every time.

I found the only thing to be a challenge was the Hunters, the rest of the enemies were quite simple-minded and predictable.

LOLWUT? You never fight any Scarabs in Reach at all, you see them yet they're only ever in the backdrop. In ODST you actually fight one...

You do fight them, they are in your field of view and in the same playing field as you, you just can't kill them. Remember the final run to the Pillar of Autumn? Yes... that one.

Your opinion is nothing more than convoluted drivel which just can't be taken seriously. Your service record says you've played 7 games of ODST, only 1 of which was a campaign game.

I don't give a -blam!- what kind of problems you have with other people having different opinions than you. It is sickening that you react this way, so immaturely, whenever somebody states a different opinion from the rest. You know what I think about you? You can't think for yourself, so the very thought of somebody thinking for themselves ticks you off to no avail because you are a sheep. Why don't you get in the pin with the other little sheep? BAA! BAAAAAAAAA!!!! People like you make me sick.

And to think you're so desperate as to actually use my online service record as a source, really? You don't think, maybe, I have multiple offline profiles? Did that thought ever grace your thick skull? No, I didn't think so. Or maybe you're just grasping at straws, trying desperately to hold onto any sort of validation that I'm really not thinking for myself, but sorry for you, I am - and I disagree with everything you and anyone else has said in regards to reasons for liking ODST, which in my opinion, was the worst Halo game, worse than Wars. Take that and suck on it.

1)You're the one who said I was mentally unstable because I have a different opinion, so don't even start. Saying you don't like people like him would mean you don't like yourself (not that ajw is anything like you, anyway)
2)Immaturely? All ajw did was point out where you're wrong. It's not even a matter of opinions. You don't even know what's in the game. Seven scarabs in Reach, huh? What game were you playing?

1)Saying you have offline profiles is a load of BS. That's the oldest trick in the book.
2)It's obvious that you haven't played the game since you don't even know what's in it, including Reach.
3)Once again, you're being the immature one. Saying things like, "Take that and suck on it." Real mature.
4)Again, it's not even a matter of opinion. He's informing you on (mostly) facts, which can be proved. Disagreeing with them would be not believing that they're in the game...when they are.

1)You were berating anyone who had a different opinion than you in that thread.
2)I'm not wrong I am entitled to my own opinion. Back the -blam!- off, and leave me alone. It is obvious you are just harassing me because I'm independent and higher minded than you.

1)Of course, deny and ignore the possibility of anything that proves you wrong.
2)Haven't played the game eh? I know about Vergil. I know the full name of Mickey, Dutch, Romeo, Buck, and Dare. Michael Crespo Private First Class, Lance Corporal Kojo Agu, Corporal Taylor H. Miles, Gunnery Sergeant Edward Buck, and UNSC Naval Captain Veronica Dare. Oh, and lets not forget Vergil, the Superintendent AI occupies his memory banks and makes him an invaluable source of information against the Covenant, Bucks' Squad finds him in the Data Hive and escorts him along the Coastal Highway to safety. So yes, I have played the game. So shut up and get out.
4)In my opinion, the story sucked. You cannot change my opinion. It is my own and I will vehemently stand by it to the end.

2. I don't see how you hate all the other SIIs when there has only been 2 in the games.

3.That was the Hub world moron.

4.Which is funny because all you have to do is "Hug" the hunters when you fight them. You have it completely backwards.

5. You do not fight scarabs in halo reach, what is wrong with you? Bungie even commented on that by saying there was suppose to be a level were you control one.

The only thing the game was missing for me was multiplayer support for firefight. If not for that it would have been amazing.
