Lag is pretty uncommon for me, so I don't see the need..

I can hardly ever tell who the host is or really be conscious of the fact there is a host.

Besides the host must be much more accurate with their weapons. It's kind of a headache to deal with going back and forth from being a host to a client. I'd almost rather not have it in this game.

My First account: MC VS ARBITER
My main account: xMCxVSxARBITERx
My new accounts: Legendifier & Melting Fire (I = i)

I would like servers, or a better host selection system. When I play rumble pit or living dead alone and get partied up with americans I have like 1000 ms(1s) delay. But when I do speedtests I only have like 250 ms. IT´s so frustrating when you try to win game of arena slayer when your teammates are bad + you have a constant 400 - 1300 ms delay. It is almost impossible to win games like those.

Yeah, I'm a prick just like that. Get over it.

Halo doesn't need dedicated servers, just a better host selection system. Also, dedicated servers do not solve all lag problems.

Forget it man, and get with the countdown. Shake this square world and blast off for Kicksville.

Reach host ranking algorithm: (a*quit_percentage + b*isMexican + c*(1/KDR) + d*hasGuest) * 100
where a > b = d > c

This.

As far as I can tell, the current host ranking formula is (a*quit_percentage + b*isMexican + c*(1/KDR) + d*hasGuest) * 100.

I haven't figured out the multipliers, but a is definitely very high.

It's amazing how true this is.

I honestly can't see why anyone would be against dedicated servers for ranked and p2p for social.

  • 01.18.2012 2:37 AM PDT

Because the costs will fall on the end-user in ways that will cheapen the game. ie. things like CoD duty 'Elite,' micro-transactions and all other breeds of social networking -blam!-.

Then there's server down-times.

The bottom line is it's not worth it. Now those that are closer to the server have an advantage. All it does is shift the problem slightly.

Cost falls on the user in the form of their Xbox live subscription fees.

Server down time doesn't matter because p2p is also there.

So you would rather have one player with 0 ping than everyone having a relatively equal ping? Are you retarded?

So what is a LIVE subscription paying for in a P2P-only game? Warm fuzzy feelings? I'm inclined to agree with xSmoothmouse: a more expensive infrastructure could see us paying in other ways.

Unless you're from Jabooty or using satellite internet then yes everyone has a relatively equal ping. I have played PC games. A server browser would allow YOU TO, GASP, CHOOSE THE BEST SERVER FOR YOU. Are you capable of picking the server which you have the lowest ping to? Are you?

  • 01.18.2012 2:58 AM PDT

Dedicated servers don't cost the consumer any more. And if you enjoy playing mexicans with bad internet continue to. Almost every good game has dedicated servers from 2011 minus cod and halo.

And what do you do when you don't have a good ping to any servers available in your region? Assuming the publisher sees fit to provide sufficient servers for your region, of course.

I think you have a somewhat rose-tinted view of the average internet connection. Plenty of regions make the US look good. We don't all live in South Korea.

Where I live, it's rare that I get to play the gametypes I want in BF3 as soon as I'm in a party of two or more. In my experience, dedicated servers only begin to excel on the PC, when third party providers can involve themselves.

Wtf? What third parties are you referring to? Do you know how dedicated servers work?

  • 01.18.2012 3:11 AM PDT

Sorry consumer typo. Someone mentioned elite for someone reason when cod doesn't have dedicated servers. BF3, and Gow3 both have dedicated servers. It's so nice to play non laggy games.

*sigh*

Third party means not first party. With me so far? Traditionally, on PC, players have had the option of renting servers from regional providers or providing their own server. Console players are more commonly at the mercy of the publisher/developer (in fact, I can't think of any exception to this off the top of my head, but perhaps there is).

  • 01.18.2012 3:17 AM PDT

fear me, for i am pro sauce

i would love for halo 4 to have dedicated servers

i have a lot of trouble with bullet registration and lag, dedicated servers would make playing online so much more fun

Lol. Well I wasn't referring to that Pentium 4 in your basement when I said dedicated servers would be beneficial, ping wise, to players. Hosting your own server would alleviate your complaints about not having a good local server to connect to, right?

Yes, but I'd be beyond stunned to see it happen on console.

I'm not outright against dedicated servers, I just haven't seen them done well on console in my region.

Edit: lol Pentium 4. The most efficient way of converting electricity to heat without the side effect of processing power.
