No need, with the cost of maintaining servers around the world and the fact that servers can actually CREATE lag, it really is pointless.
Now, an example of how it can create lag:
Say I want to play matchmaking with a full team of players who live in my area, we get matched against another bunch of players in our area, but the closest server is 250 miles away, now instead of having basically zero ping with the p2p model, we are forced to route to the server and experience +50 ms lag.
Servers are only really needed when the game is setup for GIANT matches, like Battlefield does. But since Halo is best played 4 v 4, FFA and MAYBE the scattered 8v8, servers would be a pointless expense causing more problems then it solves.
Especially considering how good the net-code is in halo, i mean, if one good thing can be said about bungies work with reach, it's the netcode
