Subject: the BIG Question: Cheating?

My thumbsticks will be your Doom.... sorry 'bout that.
My Stats

If you ask any Halo fan about Halo2 what would you hear?

"GREAT GAME!"... right? "THE BEST"...!

Then you ask "If you could change one thing about Halo2 what would it be?"

Now the answer to this question can range from the usual "Bring the Pistol Back..." and other Halo 1(ce) references to the gameplay factors like "4player co-op would be nice..." to the fanboy ATV wetdreams with online wars of 50 players using Kelly and Linda and ODST skins versus elites, Brutes and grunts... and engineers. ok maybe not engineers.

But one thing all these answers have in common is that they'd all come in second if offered the choice to do away with cheating. Atleast the big forms of cheating that deal with HOST issues.

The BIG QUESTION is will Bungie $spring$ for servers? Or will the task of game hosting (and all it's vulnerabilities to unfair play) be pawned off upon the common 360 consumer?

Ask yourselves: "Despite its glory what is Halo 2's greatest flaw?" Then wait and see if Bungie repeats it in Halo 3.

We are the Halo Generation.

I'm pretty sure that Bungie has already stated that they're not going to be running dedicated servers. So that leaves the consumers with being host.

Cheating is unevitable. There's always going to be some form of cheating and all of it can't be stopped.

in the 360 system with halo 3 bungie should come up with a full proof way so that the game CANT be hacked, like make it so one cannot change eliments such as how high one were to jump or weapon attributes, i think that if bungie did this to multiplayer maps ( who cares about campaign thats there business) than cheating would be harder to do and then all bungie would have to worry about is stand byers which they can already stop, full proof system

I think modding will be almost dead in Halo 3 because most xbl modders softmodded their xboxs which you can't on the 360, I would expect standby to be the most used cheat.

As much as I wish I was wrong, there is no way to just *stop* people from cheating.

Get WorkPLaced!

It's really strange, but I've never experienced cheating in any Xbox Live game other than Halo 2 - Is it more vulnerable? I play COD2 all the time, and no-one seems to cheat at all.

Weird.

Because Halo 2 is the most played xbl game so more players means more cheaters. Only like 12 people play CoD2 online anyway.

Its very popular so people make programs that can read the maps so people can edit them

Acting like pre and post pubescent idiots who feel confident behind Internet anonymity? Even though it's applicable to the majority of our members, we ask that they not do that here.

Cheating is invetiable.

They have already made a something that lets you play copies.

kinda sad cause this was suppose to be a system that couldn't be cracked for a year.

Took 'em 4 months...

As long as there are losers with no lives, there will be cheating.

Where did bungie say this regarding halo 3's release?

i think it's sad that all these people who pay good money for their gaming accept so easily the fact of cheating.
"Cheating is inevitable... it's just a matter of time before the cheaters catch on... as long as the sky is blue there will be cheaters... blah blah blah."

Servers would eliminate so many forms of cheating... that (gasp) it would almost be worth it. If only people spoke up fand if only bungie would listen then the majority of gamers could stop taking it up the wazoo from all the "inevitable" cheaters.

I think these games are already good enough without cheats. plus i like the challenge

I'm here to kick ass and chew bubble gum...and I'm all out of bubble gum.

I hate cheaters, but past experiences have made me grow to hate dedicated servers, too. We'll see.

bah

the big question is more single player

will bungie hire good level designers this time. halo 2 earth levels was so badly designed. i mean some kids could do better with a level editors.

city 17 of half life 2 if so much more intesreting than the earth city of halo 2. once you see and play city 17 of half life 2 sudenly halo 2 earth levels become really boring.

outdoor alien levels are the best levels of halo serie. like Silent Cartographer. if they want to make earth levels i hope they will do better design this time.

i liked the design of the trailer. i hope this time this will translate into the game unlike this awesome Halo 2 demo bungie presented at e3. halo 2 was not even close to this e3 demo.

"Amazement Guaranteed"

standby occurs when the host puts a halt on everyone elses connection by hittin standby, so why not throw it back at him? when the host standbys, the person left connected to the game (the host) should be booted immediately, even if he's just having a connection error and not doing the standby glitch.

this would be unfortunate for him if he wasn't cheating, but it keeps the rest of gamers happy by elimintating any threats. problem solved. you just have to figure out a way to effectively implement the system like they've probably been trying to do for ages.

One shot: one kill, zero seconds to live

cheating and moding will sadly occur, there's really no full proof way to stop it. banning only lasts as long as that person's account. i do wish bungie would develop servers to atleast slow it down. it sucks that there are people out there who believe ruining the game for others and harming $400 worth of tech is fun.

If Team Swat became ranked, would there still be no shields?

Amazing!

There's cheaters. Always will be. Some people simply don't have lives.

striker is right but hopefully due to the untold godlyness and how shiny the 360 is, that funky avoid this player and whatnot should be very usefull. (hopefully)

This game isnt going to be easily hacked for one reason: Softmodding an XB360 at the moment is impossible. There is no bridge into the software beucase there arent any games like Mech Assault that assist in the connection. So if we cant soft-mod, what about hard-mods? Yes they are possible, but extremely difficult and un-practicle. If you opened up an x-box, i bet you it woudnt look anything close to the 1st XB, or even any other electronics gaming system. You really need to know the inner workings of a 360 before hard-modding right now.

i think hacking is the least of our worries with halo 3, Bridgeing and Standbying may be bigger issues.

You can "avoid" people, too, you remember?

The 360 will be better, at least in that department.

Ok here is why people are able to cheat on Halo 2... MATCHMAKING. Bungie had to be "different" and implement a flawed system. Just take five seconds to think, on ANY other Live game, there are Optimatch games where someone is leader of the room. If you cheat in his/her room you get the boot and are hated on. If you are in a room that has cheating, then you find another one. The community itself stops the cheating.

true but ther system meant that people cant just stay on a level that there good at and get up ranks. it is a good system it just got abused by cheaters.
