"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

So recently I created an account on Metahalo (which is awesome, by the way) and I noticed that it lists how many wins and losses you've had at each skill point, along with the average time you spent there, your KD for that level, etc. So I started wondering: If you have a certain number of more wins than losses, will the system become more convinced you don't belong there? Here's an example:

At level 47 (Team Slayer) I have played 107 games, 53 of which I won, 54 of which I lost. (I know I suck, that's not the point.) I'm pretty much alternating like this: Win a game, go to 48, then lose and go back down. Then I have to win 2 games to go back up. However, I've been winning far more consistently lately. When I first got my 48, I had 30 wins and 40 losses. So, at some point, once you accrue enough wins at a certain skill, does the system believe that you don't belong at that skill level anymore. Basically what I'm asking is this: Does the system take each individual skill level into account, or only the wins and losses overall? I'm just curious to see how in-depth the system is.

It takes each skill level into account, along with everyone elses skill level.

Basically it matters who you win and lose against at each level. If you are level 47 and you win against a bunch of 48's, you will rank up more than if you won against a bunch of 47's. Likewise if you lose to a bunch of 48's you will rank down less than if you lose to a bunch of 46's.

But what if I had, say, 200 wins and 5 losses on my 47 (just being hypothetical here) and I had 40 losses on my 48 and only 20 wins. Would I go down or not? Would the system think I belonged at 47 or not?

The system does not track win/loss at each levels like that. Your wins and losses at any level affect 2 variables, sigma and mu. When those are pushed to a certain point you rank up and down.

Trueskill does not look at your win loss at level 47 and judge your rank accordingly at 48. All it sees is your current sigma and mu values and takes that into consideration against everyone else's.

Ah okay, that answers my question, thank you.
