Sega Mega Drive, Golden Axe and Sonic all day!

keep default halo 1+2 controls as default H3 controls. make every single button mappable, plus the option for looking/moving on each stick. that way everyone stays happy

A- Jump
B- Melee
X- reload/action button
Y- switch weapon
RB-switch grenades
RT-Shoot
LB- Flashlight/invisibility
LT- Grenade
Alright, heres something different for the left analog stick, it is still the run and crouch button but when you click it down you stay in crouch so you dont have to keep holding the stick down. Then to go prone you would click it again but for a longer period of time, like 3 seconds or something. If your crouching and you quickly tap the left analog stick for 1 second, you would stand back up. And to drop down on your stomach when your standing, you would just hold the left thumb stick for a longer time then when you crouch. And this could be a cover button as well, if you wanna go up against a wall to peak around corners just run at the wall and you will go up against it. (I know this is basically the same as Ghost recon advanced warfighter, but it works good in that game.)
Right analog stick- aim/zoom
D-pad- not sure if there is anything else, but there probably will be. Someone have a good idea on what the D-pad could be used for?

They have the continuous crouching to make you feel more like the masterchief, his knee problems translated in your thumbpain by holding it down all the time.
They did it deliberately with that theory in mind.

This actually brings up a really good point. Bungie could have a few controller settings that seem good to them (Standard, Boxer, etc.), but let the player customize every command that he/she wants in order to have their perfect setup.

"In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move." -Douglas Adams

It might also be good to create options for specialization,

eg. close range w/ primary fire, secondary fire, and melee on the triggers and shoulder, then switch weapons and crouch on joystick clicks.

Or sniper, w/ primary fire on one trigger and a multilevel zoom on the other.

Donutleader, there are a lot of people with different demands, I wouldn't just call for my profile and say all the others are bad ideas.

Ientirely agrre but i think it should be taken a step further with full cusomisation having each button do exacly what you want. i would have one of the bumpers as board so you can look and board t the same time and the other as melee.

Halo is NOT a squad based tactical FPS. It is a run-in-and-blow-stuff-up-without-any-strategy FPS. Let's keep it that way. NO SQUAD COMMANDS!

i have a better idea. make it so you can chose what you want each button to do. for example, if for some odd reason you wanted the A button to make you scope in you could do that, having a completly custom set up for buttons would make every one happy i think.

Thank you!!! All customization for the buttons like in Starwars Battlefront. If I want to put any button anywhere to do any thing I want to have that ability to do it. If I want to shoot with the A button I should be allow to do it. It should be all customizable to get the best feeling that I want! Not preprogramed button layouts that we have now but all buttons should be free to place anywhere we dang well please.

Yes that would work but I bet the majority of people will still have the contolls the same as in the past teo games. Not because they are -blam!- about having them there but because it was perfect. It felt right and we are used to that. I am not speaking for anyone else but myself and am just making a prediction.

Agreed with Pat, the original settings feel right. It somehow puts you in the Mjolnir suite. It makes sense that your left trigger is the grenade, because you throw them with your left hand and the B button is melee, because it is beneath your fire button.

Still I have not had a default button layout ever, I choose jumpy on Halo 1 and boxer on Halo 2, just adjusting to what gives me the edge and that is where my dedication to the game comes to play. Some people just do what feels natural and they are for the masterchief feeling, they want to be the hero, where I just get really competitive and want to win through team work and smarts and skill.
That choice makes me want to configure and like me there are many people, but it is sought more in the competitive people. Also a lot of people somehow feel more at home playing inverted or with legacy, they are just programmed like that.

Some people will never change, even with the most retarded profile out there if that were default, but then again, it isnt that big-a-deal to have the possibility to do this.
