I think this will clear things up for many of the people who believe the ark to be Noah's Ark or symbolical of it, when really it's more logical to be the Ark of the Covenant. First of all, Noah's Ark is recorded to have rested on Mount Ararat 4600 years ago, never leaving the place as it would be too monumental to go unnoticed. It is still believed to be frozen in the Ararat icefields. Mt. Ararat is in present day Turkey, by it border of Iran. Also, the weekly update has Frankie describing the artifact and swirling clouds. He says its from a never-before encountered force with sub atomic energies. Noah's Ark doesn't stand out as a weapon, but instead a sanctuary. Instead this ark must be the Ark of the Covenant, as in the chest that carried the 10 commandments. As reported through the Bible, this ark was led into battle, under the glory of God, so that no battle, when possessed by the Jews could be lost under the Ark. It was carried around Jericho, the city that fell without a swing of a sword, collapsed down to the ground. This is evidence enough for me to believe that it is not Noah's Ark, but instead the Ark of the Covenant.

You have somekind of a point there, but you must remember that in Halo, the ark is meant to be used against the flood as Noah used his "ark" against the flood also.. Ark "protected" from the flood.

You little all known story about the Ark of the Covenant, by which God sometimes appeared and spoke through is not convinsing enough.

Noah's Ark is more logical.. since its used against the flood, duh!

Well if it's Noah's Ark, then that's not the artifact in the video(which it is... look at h2 collectors disc) so I don't know what to say. The fact that the Ark of the Covenenant is believed to be at the mouth of the Nile, which happens to be in Uganda and Ethiopa. Right in between there, theres a country called Kenya, with two towns, Voi and Mombasa. Along with that, Kilimanjaro is in the southeast corner of Tanzania. Call me crazy, but this has a lot more backing than yours. I don't care about the fact that we are fighting the Flood, Noah's Ark was not a weapon, and this artifact, the ark IS a weapon.

"You must face the truth squarely and without flinching from duty. Our enemies are mortal no longer. Mercy for such as they is a chimera, self-deception is its only ally. Dedicate this weapon, given unto your hand at the behest of the Emperor, to their destruction. Regard its function as your only duty: you live only to bring cleansing fire."

i too beleive it is the ark of the covenant but i also beleive it is noahs ark in a sense. The ark of the covenant holds all the secrets of religion so wouldnt this ark hold all the secrets about the forerunners and flood.

and the ark doubles as a safe place from flood and halos and what not

Maybe I'm just taking my common sense for granted, but I thought this was known to people, the fact that the Bible influences Halo greatly and the symbolism they share.

Then I guess we have a logical question for next weeks Weekly Update Q & A.

"Which one is the ark in halo more similar to, Noah's Ark or Ark of the Covenant?"

Well if Noah's ark is in Turkey, then there will be a mission in Turkey, I don't see how that changes anything.

The art to good shooting lies in the ability to aim at where your opponent isn't, and miss.

Are you sure that is fact and not speculation?

Bungie officially stated that the artifact in the video is NOT NECESSARILY THE ARK

One shot: one kill, zero seconds to live

as far as ark threads go, atleast you moved away from the past 100 threads about it being Noah's. yeah this ark is probably the covenant's or the forerunners. (i mean seriously, does it look like a boat?). i've been also argueing that this ark is not Noah's.

spartan117athalo is also correct, people are just naturally assuming this was the ark, but they could be right. We won't truly know until the game is released.

I don't think it's Noah's Ark.. Seeing as that was made by Noah.

I think the name's more symbolic.. For protecting the Forerunners from the Flood.

...c'mon, why would the prophet and the covenant in general go to shuch lengths to secure earth, if it wasn't the ark? (notice the prophet first came there with light forces not knowing that humans were there, and began making a sermun)

Also, it looks like forerunner tech, creates the light of a halo, and cortana said 'this is the way the world ends', do you need more proof than that?

Also, who said anything about humans=humans? Why can only the Chief and Marines be Reclaimers, and not Elites? Perphaps the Ark was once a ship to help the Forerunners escape the Flood(pun), like the Noahs Ark story. What if humans=Forerunners?

Oh, no. I know that's the Ark. These people were saying that the Ark was on Earth, but was the Ark of the Covenant or Noah's Ark. I agree with you that what was in the video was most likely the Ark. But, I disagree that it's the Ark of the Covenant, or Noah's Ark.

I'm not saying its the Ark of the Covenant, literally. But I have seen some people go as far as saying the ark was literally Noah's Ark. I just wanted to point out that logically, the ark in Halo is more symbolic of the Ark of the Covenant than Noah's Ark.

Where are we going, and why am I in this hand basket?

The name may be drawn from the Bible, however the connection may end there. Many storylines of fantasy and sci-fi use the term "Ark" to imply that the object is a place of safty, a large/unique method of transport or both. In the Beast Wars TV series, the Autobot ship was named The Ark as it transported the Autobots to Earth in order to save Cybertron from its energy shortage. In the movie Doom, the Ark was the transport to Mars. So while the name stems from the biblical stories, the actual object named the Ark may not have anything to do with said stories.

Precisely. The name, and the idea originated in the Bible. But I seriously don't think it's LITERALLY the Ark of the Covenant, or Noah's Ark.

I don't think it's the Ark of the Covenant nor Noah's Ark. If it even is the Ark (the Halo Ark, control room for all 7 halos), I don't think it would have any thing to do with the religious symbols. There are religious undertones in Halo, but I don't think they will be more important than that, just undertones. To introduce a theological icon into the ame woldn't make any sense, especially because there hasn't been any story, or dialogue of religion in the games or the books.

People seem not to realize that there is another ark in the Bible. Not the Ark of the Covenant or Noah's Ark. The basket that Moses was put into was also called an ark. Possibly this Ark contains the salvation of the Human/Forerunner race just as the other ark cept Moses safe so that he could lead the Hebrews out of Egypt. Of course, that would mean that 117 would not be saving the world, it would be some other guy.
There's my rampant speculation for the day.

I think we just need to agree that it ISN'T an Ark of Biblical descent. It's the Ark in Halo... Not from the Bible. DIFFERENT ARK!

the ark does mean noahs ark, but noahs flood doesnt mean the flood in halo... the flood in halo represent the sin in the bible, halo represents noahs flood.
