So today I went around looking for some private groups focused on Custom games. Unfortunately, I did not succeed in my goal, and instead ran into a whole lot of dead groups that really shouldn't be allowed to exist anymore. Below are snapshots that I took of their desolate group forums.
Example One
Example Two
Example Three
Example Four
Example Five
Example Six (Not Customs-related but whatever)
Example Seven
I would like to propose that if any activity is not detected in the forum of a Private Group for a period of 31 days, that it be automatically deleted, and its name be released so other forum members can use it to start a group.
Also, this brings up an interesting point after I realized how many groups were empty: are Private Groups not advertised enough? I understand that there is a "Private Groups Spotlight" available, but those usually advertise groups which have already become self-sustainable and don't need the extra PR.
The Classifieds are filled with clan advertising, and since so many people are always spamming out ads, you can find that your thread can be buried in the fifth page or so after only one day.
Would it be more helpful to have a "Private Groups" tab under the Community dropbox, which auto-links to the Groups spotlight? It would also be better to have another "spotlight" page showcasing newly-created Private Groups, regardless of member count. I understand that many people are annoyed whenever they are being spammed with Private Group invites on the forum, but if we allow them more space to reach out to members, this will naturally stop.
