First of all, I disagree with you in that I found Halo 3's campaign lackluster. It's just kind of anti-climactic and forgettable. But on to multiplayer. To me, the main reason I don't enjoy Reach MP as much is because it completely butchered the vehicle combat. I did and still do use the Banshee in Halo 3 all the time. In Reach feels clunky and slow. There's also the matter of the Scorpion tank being unusable because of how overpowered it is.
It also frustrates me how vehicles have their own health. Work hard to wear down an enemy and hijack their vehicle, and you're repayed with something that can be destroyed with two bullets.
There's also the custom games. Aside from some race tracks, they're all dull. Nobody wants to play them. I don't even know why this is because the customs fever in Halo 3 was ridiculous.
I don't feel like going into meticulous detail and picking apart every aspect of the game, but I simply do not enjoy Reach as much as Halo 3. The Title Update did make it a lot better, but it's simply not as fun for me.
And no I'm not one of those people who lauds every previous game in the series. H2's multiplayer was downright stupid. Most of the fun came from how incredibly broken it was and the abundant modders.
The vehicle combat I can't say much for as that's your opinion. But I can say that I prefer having vehicle health instead, as most maps with vehicles are symmetrical. Imagine playing on Haemorrage, and the other team has both the Wraiths/Scorpions. You're going to get utterly wrecked, and it won't be fun. At least with this system, you've got a chance of destroying one instead of going for the hijack and getting raped by the other one anyway.
The custom games is the fanbase, not the game, so you can't really criticize the game for that.
Also I don't understand how you didn't like Halo 2 MP, but I'll leave that one where it stands.
