So problem is weapon sounds and that it doesn't pop up a text that you're being shot. Sure, weapons sound really underpowered, infact, they sound like toys.
But Halo 3 had few features that Reach doesn't.
Good maps.
Big Team Battle that didn't focus on completely whoring vehicles, especially banshee. (And incase someone reading this hasn't played Halo 3, Warthogs were actually something to be afraid of, instead of cabs to get quickly to power weapon)
Balanced gameplay, people who couldn't aim & strafe got shot instead of "lol time to lock my armor and go invincible!"
Halo 3's biggest flaw in my opinion was that often the connection was horrible, Reach fixed that but brought in alot of crap to make sure people with attention span of 10 seconds will buy the game.
And as for campaign, I really haven't been enjoying Halo campaign after CE & H2. Halo has always been about epic multiplayer.

I'm trying to make a point that taking damage without being able to respond quickly ruins the gameplay IMO.
Welcome to Halo 3, you had to pay attention to radar, know your enemys movements, if you got ambushed you tried to kill the guy by outskilling him (No bloom to save your ass there).
What do you mean respond quickly? Press LB to Armor lock?
I DO look at the map a lot, in fact whenever I don't have a mini-map I completely change my playstyle from assault to defense. The problem with the Halo 3 mini-map, is that it's not very clear. Just a bunch of dots. The Reach mini-map shows when they're under you (pale dot), above you (triangle) and on your level (plain red dot).
See, I knew someone would criticize me for AL. I use evade, and if it's not there I use sprint thank you very much.
