My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

Your gripes are with the audio and the aesthetics of damage-dealing and damage reception?

Those definitely should not make or break a game. I can agree that some of the weapons sound a bit puny but I never had trouble factoring damage.

Try playing with duct tape covering your HUD and your TV on mute. Then tell me it doesn't break the game.

Sorry if it sounds rude, but it ruins the experience for me. If someone shot you with a BB gun, to replicate the feel of live ammunition on shields, would you feel it or hear it?

Why would I play with duct tape on my HUD?...

You're right, when i noticed the fuel rod projectiles bounced i had a serious what the -blam- face. But i shrugged it off and as usual continued using the DMR and Sniper. Lol, what gets me is when someone spams the fuel rod and doesn't hit anything, because i already killed them. Makes me chuckle everytime.

I'm trying to make a point that taking damage without being able to respond quickly ruins the gameplay IMO.

Heh. I know the feeling.

I've used the Sniper/DMR combo a few times, and raped when I did. I only use the fuel rod to get around faster with the jetpack =P

Ak & Ferret, we should play firefight some time, don't you think?

Yeah, sometimes i pick that setup and then kill a grunt and pick up their plasma pistol and do away with the fuel rod completely. I find that gun cheap to play with in ff to be honest. I mean, how hard is it to fly around and bombard enemies with a cannon. -_-" I'd rather use something that requires me to put some effort into it.

Zealot, sounds fine to me.

I think I have room in my Friend List for two. Maybe we can have a game or two sometime.

What do you have in mind? Custom? Limited? Arcade? Anniversary?

That's how Halo has always played prior to Reach - get yourself in a stupid spot then you deserve to be in the respawn screen.

I won't be able to play immediately as I've got plans to play BF3 with some of my mates later, and family affairs to add to it. Send me an FR though. GT: Covenant Turtle. My user is my old GT.

EDIT: Anything but limited, as I die frequently from Focus Rifles XD

There is no stupid spot, it happens everywhere.

Anyway, I've got to go for now but I'll be back. Debating is one of the things I enjoy.

I won't be able to play tonight either, honestly. It's really late where I am. It will have to wait for tomorrow or the day after.

Well, I don't really see a problem with those dang Focus Rifles. I can take care of those for you. But sure, anything but Limited is fine with me. As for what we play, let's just decide in the lobby, when we're all ready to play.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

So problem is weapon sounds and that it doesn't pop up a text that you're being shot. Sure, weapons sound really underpowered, infact, they sound like toys.

But Halo 3 had few features that Reach doesn't.

Good maps.

Big Team Battle that didn't focus on completely whoring vehicles, especially banshee. (And incase someone reading this hasn't played Halo 3, Warthogs were actually something to be afraid of, instead of cabs to get quickly to power weapon)

Balanced gameplay, people who couldn't aim & strafe got shot instead of "lol time to lock my armor and go invincible!"

Halo 3's biggest flaw in my opinion was that often the connection was horrible, Reach fixed that but brought in alot of crap to make sure people with attention span of 10 seconds will buy the game.

And as for campaign, I really haven't been enjoying Halo campaign after CE & H2. Halo has always been about epic multiplayer.

Welcome to Halo 3, you had to pay attention to radar, know your enemys movements, if you got ambushed you tried to kill the guy by outskilling him (No bloom to save your ass there).

What do you mean respond quickly? Press LB to Armor lock?

Alright, then. I'm probably hitting the hay, or going to find something else to do for the night. Peace out, Reach Forum. It's been real.

  • 01.19.2012 2:18 AM PDT

Well, I've only played 20 games in Halo 3. However, even I must say.... it is so PURE!

I never realised how balanced a Halo game could be! If it were not for the poor netcode, lack of players, and the overpowered AR, I would play that instead of Reach any day.

  • 01.19.2012 2:37 AM PDT

I'm out.

Posted by: SubtleSpartan
It was the exact same when halo 3 came out. People were complaining about how equipment was gonna ruin the game and stuff just like how they're complaining about armour abilities in reach.

Equipment did make the game worse though. Then Bungie decided that that wasn't enough and introduced armor abilities to make the situation even worse.

and the overpowered AR

What? The AR is not even close to being overpowered in Halo 3.

I DO look at the map a lot, in fact whenever I don't have a mini-map I completely change my playstyle from assault to defense. The problem with the Halo 3 mini-map, is that it's not very clear. Just a bunch of dots. The Reach mini-map shows when they're under you (pale dot), above you (triangle) and on your level (plain red dot).

See, I knew someone would criticize me for AL. I use evade, and if it's not there I use sprint thank you very much.

They should just make an HLG playlist then you guys can hide against each other and see how much fun it is.

I don't know what you're talking about. The damage aestetics were perfect. The seasoned players always were able to tell if someone had low shields or not depending on the shields' glow.
This was removed in Reach. You can never tell how much shields someone has unless you dealt damage within a second.

No, but you can see if they have shields. When they don't it's basically game over when anyone with a semi-auto weapon sees them unless they retreat. In Halo 3, if you lost shields you basically died instantly. So, if I can't see that I'm getting hit, I can't react as they get taken down before something more than toy gun sounds come to alert me.

Lol ok. Next time we'll also add x-ray vision to your HUD and we'll add a huge X on your enemies' head so you can tell where they are much more easily.

You don't get it, do you?

Halo 3 had a sonar.

Reach had a proper motion sensor.

At least in function, anyway.

You can see if they have shields in both H3 and Reach.
It is game over (unless you're lucky and have a pretty damn good strafe) in both H3 and Reach.
If you can't see that you're getting hit, then it's your problem. I was always able to tell when someone was hitting me. It's not hard at all.
