I don't know what you're talking about. The damage aestetics were perfect. The seasoned players always were able to tell if someone had low shields or not depending on the shields' glow.
This was removed in Reach. You can never tell how much shields someone has unless you dealt damage within a second.

No, but you can see if they have shields. When they don't it's basically game over when anyone with a semi-auto weapon sees them unless they retreat. In Halo 3, if you lost shields you basically died instantly. So, if I can't see that I'm getting hit, I can't react as they get taken down before something more than toy gun sounds come to alert me.

You can see if they have shields in both H3 and Reach.
It is game over (unless you're lucky and have a pretty damn good strafe) in both H3 and Reach.
If you can't see that you're getting hit, then it's your problem. I was always able to tell when someone was hitting me. It's not hard at all.

I like to watch my surroundings, not stare at my shield bar until it goes down then start to spray.

Once again, Evade or sprint > AL. Unless I'm playing invasion with vehicles or BTB on Haemorrage. I play on the offense, not camp like most randoms I play with.

They should just make an HLG playlist then you guys can hide against each other and see how much fun it is.

You don't get it, do you?

Halo 3 had a sonar.

Reach had a proper motion sensor.

At least in function, anyway.

Reach's motion sensor is way too noob-friendly. It encourages camping as it makes it much easier and it makes it so easy to know where the enemies are. Just look at high level Onyx gameplay on Sword Base.
The previous Halos only showed you where the enemy was. You had to understand if he was close to you or on another level by listening to your surroundings.

That's like putting your ear onto the floor to see if you can hear ants talking. The sounds are so quiet and make the weapons sound weak. Mind you Halo 3 weapons did lack firepower. You can't hear footsteps at all unless I put my Turtle Beaches at painful volume.

To notice I'm being shot in Halo 3, I basically have to.

Halo 3 is basically shoot first, ask questions later. Reach adds an extra layer to it, as when noobs try to spray with their DMR, I'm off popping headshots.

It's really easy to know when you're getting shot in H3. Visual indicators such as your shield going down and seeing people fire at you are a dead give away.

Doesn't the screen also get a red tint to it which indicates the direction you're getting shot from as well?

You can even put vibration on if you've turned it off (it's on by default) which again is a fairly blatant indicator you're getting shot.

Because Halo 3 was a great game. Reach was mediochre for a Halo game. Everyon always say that it has always been like that. But I never thought Halo CE was good online.

The HUD is opaque, so it barely changes when it goes down. As for the red tint, it's about as effective as the system in Black Ops. Most of the time you get hit from the side anyway, so you can't exactly see. And by the time you turn around, you're screwed unless you play on 10 sensitivity.

0.88 K/D ratio; DMR barely over 1.

I've never had any problem noticing the red tint nor seeing my shields go down (which doesn't mean I had to stare at my shield bar constantly as it's noticeable even in the periphery of your vision).

Maybe the problems with your visual acuity?

It's also fairly easy to react in time to either kill the other person if they do shoot you first (regardless of where they shoot you from) or to at least get away and not die.

If you are dying every time someone gets the first shot in you're either not that good or you're putting yourself in bad positions constantly.

Life is a journey, if you spend all of it with your nose in your map, you may miss some of the best parts.

Playing H3 now, you would prefer Reach because you're bad at H3.

Hell, you're bad at both.

EDIT: If I made a new account, specifically for stat whoring and went extremely well in everything I played, would you still act like stats are everything and believe me if I said the moon is made of cheese?

I play for fun, not stats.

Also, I've had this account since I was a noob at every game I played. So it's kinda difficult to work up from years of noobdom.

EDIT: If I made an account specifically for stat-whoring, and made top rank in every game I played, would you believe that the moon was made of cheese if I told you? It's people like you who don't find logical answers but instead mock others that ruin these forums. You basically find anyone with higher stats in a freaking video-game to have a better answer than the guy who actually knows anything.

We play for fun too. Fun is a subjective term. What you think is fun may or may not be the same as what we think as fun.

Generally, a person with a higher K/D knows what they're talking about. You only have 11 games of H3 played, your opinion holds less weight. You're not good at Reach, your opinion also holds less weight than someone else better at the game.

It is entirely relevant, as I've gotten a lot better but have been playing other games as well. The reason I have bad stats is not because I was a noob for ages, but because Reach was the only thing I played while I was a noob.

Also, I don't need to play more of Halo 3 to have an opinion on it. If I played more of it, you'd criticize me by saying If I don't like it then why do I play it so much. But if I don't play it then you say I'm inexperienced. Think of it as food. If it's so bad, then why continue to eat it? But if all you've had is a tiny taste, how can you say you don't like it?

At least some people get it...

If you people revered Halo 2 so much I wouldn't have such a problem with it, as that deserves it.

Hard is good.

It's where most of us started playing Halo online, first experiences are always the best.

Gotten a lot better? Your recent games prove otherwise, unless you were pants on head retarded before.

No, I wouldn't criticize you by telling you if you liked it so much why do you play it. If you played a lot and sucked, I would say the same thing about your opinion on Reach. It doesn't hold as much weight as a player who's better than you.

And your last sentence made you contradict yourself.

About my recent games, whenever I play something I play it for weeks then switch. I played GoW3 for a few weeks, then Battlefield 3, then Skyrim and only a few matches of Reach inbetween. I had to get used to controls in those few matches, then switch again.

If I played it more because I enjoyed it, I would become better at it. But I don't enjoy it, so I don't play it as much, so I'm not that good at it.

Regarding that last statement, if I eat a dish 11 times I think I'd have enough experience with that dish's taste to say whether I like it or not.

EDIT: I've only gone in with a team about twice, every other time I've played was by myself. Normally, my retard team mates would leave me be the one to rush with sprint while they sat back and picked their arses readying to armour lock after I died. Because of this, I often find myself getting spawn trapped. I eventually break it, but my retard team just makes the cycle repeat.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

After reading about your post about how Radar is unclear, it's pretty clear now.

You like the game because it makes everything easy, armor lock, evade, sprint to avoid death instead of trying to fight back and out BRing opponent or get a help from friend.

Oh dear god, you don't know if enemy is above, below or on the same level with you, look around, does everything to be dumbed down.

What next? You hate shooters because you have to aim...Oh wait, bloom..never mind.

So now I know in which direction the enemy is. Great! Now to keep my eyes on the map's many lifts and whatnot, while staring at my HUD to look for the translucent red tinge while listening for cap gun fire!

I assume you think that all AA's are used for is exploitation. You obviously don't understand their purpose.

AL is for anti-vehicle roles, great in invasion and BTB.

Sprint is good for flanking and/or map control, in getting there first.

Evade is a great all-rounder, as it allows you to dodge vehicles, get around faster, flank, get into cover and get behind the enemy for a backsmack.

Camo is great for assassinations and map control, not to mention it's benefits when sniping.

Hologram is deadly if used correctly. It can also be used to test the waters before rushing into the fight.

Jetpack is excellent on open maps, as it allows easier movement but leaves you wide open to compensate for it.

Drop Shield is an excellent team tool, and aids greatly in map control. It's difficult to use efficiently, but can spell victory if used effectively.

EDIT: Bloom IMO makes it harder to get kills past close range. Instead of pulling the trigger as fast as possible, you have to pace yourself. For anyone who rages that luck based headshots are unfair, try sprinting forward, meleeing and then popping a headshot.
