@spaboolly

Hope it's okay for me to make a thread to share this. I was reading the new issue today. They had an article about Microsoft and the corporate vice president talked about Bungie and Halo in his interview.

Bungie, even today, the guys are good friends of mine. I have nothing but high praise for them and hope they continue to make great hits. The truth is they had worked on Halo for a very long time. They were interested in going to do something else. The relationship had reached the point where the best thing for both of us was for me to build a new team to work on Halo and for them to go work on something they wanted to go build.

Nice to see Bungie getting some love from Microsoft.

I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

I wouldn't think that Microsoft would 'despise' Bungie anyway, but interesting, nonetheless.

Didact's Reprisal -
Now is the time of our unworlding
One final effort is all that remains
And I am not afraid
We shall fulfill our promise
We fight for the grace of the Mantle
And this time none of you will be left behind

They were Bungie's "benevolent dictators."

Look at all the $$$ Bungie made Microsoft. If someone made me a lot of $$$, I'd have nothing but good things to say also.

They'll shut it down soon. Find the one who talked, and then, *boing* into the sun.

I just saw a green monkey nut shot a small tan lizard(?) in a gunny sack.

I skipped over that article, I'll have to go back and read it.

Were they not getting MS love?

Anyone can get MS love, but you gotta pay.

There was also some good insight about how 343 is treating Halo. That's what caught my attention.

Bungie is so not money-hungry. They could've stuck with Halo, made millions/billions more, but instead they move on to make a new IP (which nowadays barely sell).

I respect you, caring more about what you want to do, instead of what rewards you more.

Sounds like M$ are regretting letting Bungie go.

Don't be so naive. What part in that little quote does it seem like Microsoft regrets anything, at all?

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Microsoft obviously wouldn't hate on Bungie. Not when Bungie will most likely return to Microsoft once their contract with Activision finalizes.

I wonder if Bungie will ever publish their own games.. I mean, that way they'd be free to do absolutely anything they want.

But I guess that's a long way down the track.

Care to elaborate on why you think that? I'm not saying that they won't, I'm just curious.

I think it is okay as long as you don't actually post a scan of the magazine.

Key

Umm... Bungie would've kept making Halo if M$FT had let them. He makes it sound as if Bungie sparked the whole disconnect. :\

Bungie wanted to become independent. Read this.

EDIT: that article is a bit out of date now, but the quote from Harold Ryan makes it clear that Bungie wanted to do something new.

Bungie did kind of make Microsoft billions of dollars in developing the Halo franchise, so I'm not surprised they're a little thankful.

Except it was Bungie that sparked it.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Go, Bungie!
