3 Elites with NRs and Camo sitting up top on the glaciers are enough to keep the DMR and Pistol users at bay while the Evaders with their PPs out move in and take the territory. Breakpoint P1 is actually one of the easier (if not the easiest) phases to capture out of all 3 Invasion maps.Firstly, I didn't mean to say that Invasion Breakpoint was hard. It's just annoying. Only two or three people (for the most part with only one life) get NR's. The other people are: performing melees, using camo, and/or throwing grenades. No one should ever be limited to only those three shallow elements of gameplay. Shooting - and killing with actual guns - should be the main idea here. And it isn't for every player.
I used to think that way too, but upon further examination of the playlist I realized why it would be detrimental to Invasion should the current formula be changed. Every player in Invasion has a unique role based on which side of the map they spawn on and which loadout/weaponry they have available to them. These supposed 'shallow' elements of gameplay are agreeably very one-dimensional on their own. However, when combined with the rest of the players on your team, they actually have more depth to them than what is initially conceived.
For instance, the player with camo needler probably isn't going to be getting a lot of kills. Instead, he's popping in and out weakening the enemies for others to clean up so they can collectively advance. The camo is also disrupting the spartans, making it difficult for them to see where the offense is moving next. The guys with Evade are taking the territory, and if they encounter any AR rushers they have a 3-shot + melee to take them out.
In a regular match of vanilla Reach, it would indeed be very boring to have to rush a territory and resort to the inconsistencies of CQB. However, in Invasion's unique gameplay it works because of the role each player is assigned. You're not supposed to be on equal footing all the time with your teammates.

Again, if Elites were to spawn with NRs it'd just be worse because the Spartans would pick them up, and then everyone would have NRs and DMRs, making moving out in the open impossible.
So give them magnums?
I think the problem you're facing is that you're trying to play from range when you do not have a ranged weapon. If you aren't the guy with the NR you aren't the guy who's supposed to be sitting at a distance. Whether you like it or not, you're given a specific role in Invasion and it's your duty to learn the strategies necessary to best perform your role. And it is doable. Breakpoint's first phase is the most difficult phase to skunk in Invasion when the Elites know what they are doing.
I played with Invasion experts yesterday and I was completely blown away at how well the gametype works when everyone is performing their roles efficiently. It really is night and day compared to going in with randoms who don't know how to set up.
