Actually no. A lot of people play to win, and feel cocky that they won and feel that they get bragging rights. That's not having fun, it's being a tryhard.

Surely you have taken the extra microseconds of thought process to successfully conclude that winning IS the fun to many players?

I mean, it's really not that difficult to figure it out.

What I don't get is how many "competitive" players fail to understand winning isn't the fun that "casuals" have, going off all the "how is this fun?" threads I see.

Lack of understanding all around, I guess.

I like how the OP ignored Viper's post.

I am not the OP.

I know.

I did consider that, but in my personal view, people who play to win are not true casuals.

Sorry, my views on things are weird...

I didn't see this post.

Also what are you even trying to say here? That if someone plays to win/isn't a casual, they don't enjoy or have fun playing the game?

Because that makes no sense.

Why vote AR starts on countdown?
Why vote AR starts on pinnacle?
Why vote AR starts on swordbase?
.
.
.
Why vote AR starts on [insert map here]?
Why run half way across the map to get a double beat down??
Why rush the sniper and get no kills?
Why betray me for the sniper and get no kills?
Why use grenades as your primary weapon?
Why do you think armor locking against a rocket is "pro"?
Why bring a party of 3/4 into squad and then quit out?
WHYSOBAD?

Don't take me too seriously!

this.

when i first started playing reach i aimed to have fun not to win, i mean sure winning was fun, but the fun that i wanted was destroying the other team and getting those lucky moments, or cool medals, or those moments where you feel like a boss because you just raped like 3 enemies and you didnt die.

I played the same way on halo 3, grifball was the ish and so was action sack, it wasnt so much as winning every game, but thoroughly enjoying the 10 min. of gameplay before that win or loss came about.

Don't worry i'm one of the few non reach tard casuals. The only reason I don't care if I win is that I have little to no friends who play reach.

They probably do enjoy the game, but just so they can brag about how "legit" they are. They don't do it for fun.

Enjoying the game means they have fun playing it.

Also, even if someone did play just for bragging rights, (BTW Only 12 year olds do that) then they PLAY FOR FUN BECAUSE THEY THINK BRAGGING IS FUN.

Please tell me that now you understand that everyone plays for fun.

There's a difference between enjoyment and fun.

It's small but it's still there... (omglol that's what she said huurrrhahahadurrr)

And don't make me explain it, my weird thoughts would cause the explanation to be painfully long.

Give me an example of someone who does not play for fun.

I guarantee that if you can give one that I can't prove otherwise, they are a very small if not barely existent minority.

They think it is fun too [Insert something you can do in the game].

Everybody is different, but everybody plays for fun.

It could be argued that "famous" MLG players play for the money, but if you don't think they have fun in the process you're probably wrong. If you think that they started their lives out and said "I'm going to make bank as an MLG player" you're probably wrong again. At some point they were just people like you and me, playing this game for enjoyment, and discovered that they were good enough at it to get paid on the side. A lot of them are teenagers who would be playing videogames regardless of whether or not some guys are paying them. Because they enjoy playing.

Even if they have played exclusively for the money, from the beginning of time, and don't have any fun during games whatsoever, money -> buying whatever you want -> fun.

Tryhards "try hard" to win because they think winning is fun.

Next...

On a side note, I've never really understood the term "tryhard." I know what people think it means, but does it really make any sense? I'm fairly good at this game, and I'm usually playing to the fullest of my abilities. Why wouldn't I? It's not like this game requires physical effort or some sort of mental exercise to be good, and it's not like playing poorly is going to be fun, so why would I not do the best that I can at all times?

No, 'tryhard' does not make sense.

Unfortunately it seems to have lodged itself firmly in the rotation of overused forum words and phrases ('vanilla', 'jelly', 'lolreach', 'reachtards', starting a sentence with 'Hell,', etc.).

Hell, I know you're jelly because you are not a casual or a tryhard, instead you're a reachtard who loves lolvanillareach.
