Just wondering but was admiral Whitcomb officially killed, I cannot remember it being said anywhere officially. Also what about that fight which slipped in and ripped the Covenant ships apart with white hot plasma rounds but escaped before anyone really noticed it. Will any of this tie into Halo 3, I sure hope so. It would be nice to see the old come from behind victory, the humans have been pretty much loosing the whole time. Generally I'm speaking.

Below are Spoilers. Please read no further if you have not read Halo: First Strike:

The Ascendent Justice (Whitcomb's ship) crashed into the Unyielding Hierophant to buy the Master Chief time to escape to Earth and warn the fleet. As you should remember, the Chief and his remaining handful of Spartans rigged the ship to explode, effectively destroying the majority of the Covenant ships prepared to jump to the Sol System, likely to attack Earth.

Whitcomb, and Lieutenant Haverson were both killed during the explosion, fighting to the bitter end with Elite boarding parties attempting to retrieve a crystal (a hologram meant to trick the Covenant) that was believed to be a Forerunner artifact.

The last time we saw him he was on the bridge of ship surrounded by dozens of elites with energy swords, and the ship was right next to a space station which blew up and destroyed everything around it.

I'm afraid the game won't answer all the questions left from the book. I suppose that lone fighter might have been a Forerunner ship from another galaxy oh hum. But who knows, Bungie I assume. I hope!

It could be a new plot twist that he's back, but it's unlikely. Its not like he was just hit by a bullet and staggered out of sight, never ot be seen again until the sequal. He was on a ship that was completely blown to bits. nothing left. This is shown in the Halo book First Strike . M C saw the explosion. So I think hes gone. Although it would be interesting if he turned up again. He'd be a preety good carachter for some dialog in the campaign and videos.

Spoilers, again. Beware!

I think you mean the fight in Slipspace after the Master Chief and his band of misfits boarded the Ascendent Justice to escape from Reach. While underground, Halsey discovered a crystal (most likely constructed by the Forerunner) that changed the properties of the slipspace jump and emitted nearly lethal amounts of radiation. The Covenant followed the Chief and the captured Covenant Flagship into Slipspace and began firing at them in attempts of immobilizing them to retrieve the crystal.

Unfortunately for the Covenant, their plasma torpedoes seemed to bounce off the "walls" of the Slipspace "tunnel" (I will refer to it) and were often hit by their own shots. Eventually all the cruisers were destroyed and the Ascendent Justice exited Slipspace, which suffered massive damage from the fight.

Hope that answered something...

It's funny I forgot about that part as well. But that wasn't the incident I was referring to, also the slip space inside of slip space incident isn't the one I'm thinking of either. But thanks for the help. CANNON 117 if you think of, or remember the incident can you send it to me in my msg box. I'm logging off now and by the time I get back on this topic will be pretty far off that page. Thanks again.
