Pioneer and Enthusiast for Halo 3.

343i has proved themselves to us as a community that is extremely hard to please. Bungie was amazing, and they ended things REAL bad with us, so therefore right now 343i looks like "The Golden One." In my eyes, I have seen (we have seen,) what 343i did with CE and I have to say I am pleased to an extent. I enjoy CE for CE, not CEA. The classic playlist is good, but only because the rest of the playlists are crap.

...Cutting to the point, I don't want to play Halo 2 Remake with Halo 4 style graphics. Its just NOT what I want. I don't think i'd like to ruin one of my favorite games. The only way I'd accept a remake is if we truly got Halo 2...

Thoughts?

Too bad that won't get 343i any money.

And besides, If I'm reading this right, nobody would pay for Halo 2 with Halo 2 graphics. There are a multitude of things CE needed (including theater, as the number one priority) but weren't added to Anniversary because people were to upset for change, and that would rain on their nostalgia parade. If this game gets remade, we need more, not less.

I would like the original coding updated/rewritten so the graphics are new and I would like to play online coop. That would sell but 343 won't do that, not unless H4 is a complete disaster. They didn't want CEA to challenge REACH as far as online play and they will not let H2 challenge H5 unless, like I said, H4 is a flop.

I don't want H2 MP used as a skin from another game.

I'd rather no remake, than them to remake it an mess it up, like I know they would and completely ruin my love for H2.

Besides it'd probably just be a remade campaign, using H5 multiplayer. Which is.....just dumb and wouldn't go over too well with the community.

If a Halo 2 remake comes to pass, it must be the core game with updated graphics. Not one thing can be left out from the original. The matchmaking would have to be the same, the ranks, the Clans must return, skulls, everything.

That, and they must add features. Online co-op (Even in the Halo 2 Vista port they didn't add this, it took Shock120 to even give us some form of working LIVE co-op), a Skulls menu so we don't have to keep going back to other skull profiles, Theatre mode, Forge, more maps etc.

If they do all of these things, I would buy a Halo 2 remake in a heartbeat. I've owned the Xbox version since launch and the Vista port as well, I'd happily pick up a remake with updated graphics with extra features, provided everything is in-tact (not like CEA's MP mode being a map pack for Reach).

One game I'm not joking a little like 7 year old said and I quote " tell me what your dick looks like so I can imagine it in my head and beat off to it"

If Team Swat became ranked, would there still be no shields?

Amazing!

I wouldn't say it needs forge. If by forge you mean moving weapons, spawns, vehicles, etc. Otherwise meh. I guess I'm definitely not a big fan of Forge and what its current purpose is other than editing weapons, spawns, and so forth. They need to create a true map editor rather than what the current modifier is.

I'm not a big fan of Forge either, but it's necessary to appeal to all of the Forge editors out there who won't buy the game if it's missing Forge. They need to appeal to all types of Halo fans, the tricksters, the co-op gamers, the casual, the competitive, the forgers etc. Simply giving Halo 2 in it's current form may not be enough to entice people, which is why I think all the current features since Halo 3 should be included.

Amazing!

Giving content to everybody for the base appeal is nice, but there comes a point when a certain amount is simply too much. See Halo 3 and Halo Reach playlists for any more proof. Catering to everybody will only logjam the quality, I'd think.

Personally my view on forge has changed over the years. It is a poison. If forge was in Halo 2 originally, we would have so many kill barriers. Much of the fun in MP was getting out of the map.

Forge would later lead to the inventions of soft kill zones also.

This is why I said they should leave the original game in tact. Kill barrier locations, BXR, everything. It will still be Halo 2, like the CEA campaign was still Halo CE, only in this case it would include Halo 2's Multiplayer.

Forge should have it's own playlist maybe. But I don't think adding it for base appeal for gamers is going to be an issue. The first and foremost issue, is making sure that the game is exactly like Halo 2 with updated graphics. Or even if the game's being made...

Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo Reach > Halo CE

Based on campaigns.

TBH I think I would want to see how the Reach engine looks in Halo 2 beforehand. What would the heretics look like. And I certainly wouldn't want Reach grunts in Halo 2. And I certainly don't want Reach brutes. I suppose I could live with Reach elites though.

Also, I would want to see what the environments and levels look like in the Reach engine. I wouldn't want them turning the environment in the Arbiter level from Brown to grey or something like that.

If they leave everything as it is but just improve the graphics, I would definitely want a remake.

And I would also really like to try Halo 2 multiplayer

If they use the Reach engine, it wouldn't be Halo 2.

What they will do is create a new graphics engine with models from previous games like CEA. It's clever how they've done it, taking the Flood look from Halo 3, Reach Grunts etc and putting it into a new graphics engine and making it run alongside the current Halo 2 engine for physics and gameplay.

The only thing that did run on the Reach engine was the CEA multiplayer. By that point to me it sounded like 343 either got bored or couldn't meet deadlines.

I don't think they should take models from newer games they should just keep the old models and put them into a new graphics engine

+1

Chances are very high that they're going to use the ugly Grunt model. They'll be scorning H2 Grunts!! And I would be appalled if they messed with:

-Councilors, my main army
-Honor Guard Councilor, my commander

I might have to pay them a visit... ;D

Agreed. It's sad how most modders gave up on it.

Miniature bigfoot? I have to say the Halo 2 models look more like bigfoot than the Reach models do.

@spawn031

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

As much as I would like to see see a new revised version of Halo 2, I wouldn't want it. The community of Halo that exists today is far from what it was back in 2004.

Call me recalcitrant, but one of the main reasons Halo 2 was what it was, is simply because of the community that existed. For instance, playing Zombies by "honor rules". I think that the current Halo games add too many options and deteriorates from the experience of just interacting with other players.

Meh :/

I wouldn't say that. The group of friends that I consistently play with are born and breed Halo players, and love the custom options that bring easy play. But when we play Marathon, we play a form of infection that uses "honor rules" and it plays just fine. However I cannot speak for the rest of the players out there.

Epic Monkey!

Oh I got a great idea tell 343i to make it to play multiplayer/campaign with old/new graphics and sounds. That would be great.

  • 01.28.2012 5:16 PM PDT

Sup, I'm Vette. My online name is usually Corvette19, so if you see me at another website, that's my name. I first started playing Halo when I was in the 4th grade, now I've graduated. I believe that was 2002-2003? Anyways, I've been with Halo for a long time. I mod Halo PC/CE so just hit me up if you want to. My Xfire=Corvette19. That's all I can say pretty much..

It would never be the same.
