Was HALO 2 trailer rendered using modified HALO 2 engine and not the HALO 3 engine?

Did you sayreal-time trailer?

Yes. The trailer shown at E3 in 2006 was rendered in real-time using the in-game engine. All of the assets shown were running on an Xbox 360 debug kit and the trailer was built using the current engine and development tools. The development process continues and new graphics features may be added or changed at any time.

I cant rememeber where they said it, but it is a whole new engine. Also, the detail and the HDR should give that away alot.

Did the trailer seriously look like Halo 2?

5. Seven is not optional, but rather, an inevitability.

It was real-time using the Halo 3 engine, I believe they said.

Really... who said it was on the Halo 2 engine? It's obviously on the Halo 3 one.

  • 05.14.2006 6:09 PM PDT

Why would you even ask if it was running on the Halo 2 Engine? They have been working on the Halo 3 Engine even since Halo 2 was released.

  • 05.14.2006 6:10 PM PDT

heck no, did you see how good the graphics were!? this is the new Halo 3 engine, more sophisticated than ever thought.

posted in the FAQ of Halo 3:
Halo 3's graphics will include the features seen in the real-time trailer and more, these are rendered using a new graphics engine, making the most of next-gen features like HDR (High Dynamic Range) lighting, pre-computed radiance transfer, and much, much more

The lack of detail in the capital ships and the view bellow the cliff is what gave me this idea (because they are somewhat similar to HALO 2).

The lack of detail doesn't mean it was running on the halo2 engine. And i can say they don't look anything like halo 2's graphics (my opinion).

Did you look at any other details that might have made you think it would be on the Halo 3 engine? And how can you say they lack detail???

Well, Covenant ships are supposed to look like that, and thats what you'd expect land to look like after a slip space jump boubble, a big explosion equivalent to 10 heroshima bombs, anihilating everything in the bath! OF coarse everything will look barren.

Don’t think I don’t like HALO cos I’ve played HALO 2 20 times (SPC). The graphics on HALO 2 was stunning.

PS: The detail on John 117 was amazing.

Anyway, I know bungie will do its best.

Is it me or have anyone noticed the amazing graphics when the brutes dragging the elite through the corridor on HALO 2. That’s was amazing, very close to current gen X360 games.

Yes, it’s awesome. It’s gonna be an awesome game. I love HALO series so I'm gonna pre-order it soon as the release date is announced (just like I pre-ordered the HALO 2 limited edition).

halo 2 engine (especially on 360) isnt capable of hdr lighting and bloom effects. for more on both of these, play hl2, lost coast.

The Halo 2 engine as stated by others couldn't handle the lighting and bloom effects used in that wonderful video. Halo 2 looks great in comparison to Halo 1 but Halo 3 blows both of them away already in it's teaser trailer!

Still the covenant captial ships look similar to H2's because they were mean't to look like that! In Halo 1 you can see one on the level Truth and Reconciliation, and on H2 you see them in orbit over Earth on Cairo Station and during outskirts/metropolis.

The H3 capital ships look similar as intended and they do look far better than H2's versions. There is a great graphical leap between those 2 games as demonstrated by the teaser trailer. If H3 looks anything better than it did in that video then Bungie: I want to be signed up for the UNSC's Spartan Program, it's time to kick some shiny beautiful Covenant ass!

As people have pointed out, Covenant ship architecture is generally quite smooth and featureless.

Though, it's also worth pointing out that the closest ship is still a half a mile or so away. How much detail do you think you should be able to see?

What's the big problem here?

Yes, that was their new engine.. Did they not say that in the first or second paragraph? Go read things people.

Shishka, they want to read the license plate.
