Subject: The Bungie Community and The Bungie Foundation

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I was browsing around the forums when a concept came to me: Is there a way to have the Bungie.net Community participate in supporting The Bungie Foundation.

For those of you unfamiliar with it, The Bungie Foundation is Bungie's way of giving back to the world. Aimed toward suffering children, The Bungie Foundation takes profit from the Bungie Shop and purchases iPads, which are then filled with kid-friendly content and donated to hospitals in a hope to aid children who are suffering.

Now we can already help make a difference by purchasing premium Bungie Swag from the Bungie Store, but I was hoping to facilitate a way for the community to make a more direct contribution to The Bungie Foundation and its cause.

This whole idea sparked from this post, in which I suggested that users could buy a "token" that would allow for a one-time member name-change. It was an idea to allow people the flexibility of selecting a new name but attempting to reduce the amount of name change spamming. That's when it occurred to me! What if, instead of such profits going to Bungie, the profits went straight to The Bungie Foundation?! 100%

Bungie has such a powerful community, and The Bungie Foundation has such a powerful goal. The two are perfect for each other.

What do you, the community, think? What other ideas could be implemented to garner aid for suffering children through The Bungie Foundation?

Developed Concepts:
->Name change tokens
->Employee signatures
......-More presigned-swag
......-Chance to send in possessions to be signed by Bungie Staff
......-Choice to have Bungie Store purchases be signed for added cost
->Charity DLC
->"Charity Week" where all purchase profits go to TBF
->Forum titles/avatars for donors
->Site advertisement asking for donations (demo thanks to ctjl96)
->Register as a charity on Ebay to receive donations
->"Avatars for Charity" event as described here

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

I would change my name to "prometheus25."

Unless it's already taken. In that case, the charities get NOTHIN'.

cars, girls & cake all day everyday

Only if I could remove the 'o' from my name. That'd be sweet.

  • 01.21.2012 3:45 AM PDT

Still better than you.

.....most of you, at least.

I'm not sure whether I'd want to change my name. I like it. I might change the case though, fOr AlTeRnAtInG cApS yA dIg?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I would rather buy a T-shirt or something tangable. :3

Yeah thats a really kind and good idea to give the money to the foundation, i'm just not a big fan of the whole 'name changing' idea.

This

I liked how Bungie day worked and we could buy shirts and posters. That was a good way to raise money.

Dead Mans Hand-Always Loaded.

I WAS SOCK

I think it'd be a cool idea, so long as it was like a subscription kind of purchase, to where you could only buy it once every couple years or something.

Valid points (but try to stay on topic some of you. This thread isn't about changing names or what you'd change it to, it's about ways to integrate the Bungie Community with The Bungie Foundation to raise money for very sick kids).

I agree that some sort of name change option might not be the best idea, so let me hear some of yours!

How about all the bungie employees (or at least the online web team) sign a t-shirt then they could sell that on ebay or something. All the money could go towards the bungie foundation?

I like it, and charity events like this have worked in the past. I was hoping to bring attention to activities that could run continuously and often. Over saturating the community with signed swag would decrease the overall value, though, and I think would take away from the charity.

No, I wouldn't say that, there are thousands of Bungie fans and they will always want stuff.

What would be an interesting idea is you give Bungie like $25.00 - $50.00 and you send them something you own and all the employees will sign it for you.

Of course this would have to be limited to like 77 people or something. And offer that every so often.

I would also like to see more charity items, possibly just old inventory like the swag bags offered for sale.

And as always, SEND ME A PM. Please. Or really bad things will happen to you.

Bungie should put one ad on there site for charity. That would bring in more than any other sort of community effort.

I wouldn't mind more shirts like be a Hero and stuff. I think Bungie should also be listed as a charity on Ebay so when you sell things on Ebay, you can have the profits go to Bungie charity.

I like that idea ^

And the idea of sending things into Bungie to be signed is cool too, though I worry that the logistics could get difficult. Making sure the right people get their correct merchandise back would be very important.

What if...

When you purchase merchandise (maybe a select few items) you can select an option to have the Bungie staff sign it for an added cost.

Not a bad idea. It could work, as long as they didn't stop signing things at other places (i.e. PAX).

Of course this would have to be limited to like 77 people or something. And offer that every so often.
Why would they do that? The idea is to raise money for the Bungie foundation, not make certain people's stuff more valuable.

I would also like to see more charity items, possibly just old inventory like the swag bags offered for sale.
This would be cool, but they should probably save this for another special event. They don't have unlimited old inventory (remember they were having trouble finding stuff for the old swag bags).

OP, I like this idea, and think we should expand it to more stuff. For example they could sell things like custom avatars, or just access to several pages of premium avatars, so it could be done automatically.

Also, if there are name changes there should be a note on people's profiles/drop down signatures that says who they used to be.

I just meant limited because you don't want Bungie to get overwhelmed in signing stuff.

But I also would like Bungie to make like "vintage" shirts for their older games and that could be a charity thing.

Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

I really like the idea of have a direct impact on the foundation. Since I'm on my mobile, I'll just spout a couplel ideas correlating with the name change idea.

- A custom avatar for one year (or a one time payment per new custom avatar)
- A special title (some people would really like that)

That's really about it. I've always been for these kinds of features for members that have been here for an extended period of time to add value to their account. Yet, what's a better investment than actually investing?

I see what you're saying. I imagine that the number of people who would want to spend $25+ to get their stuff signed would be pretty small, so Bugie probably wouldn't get overwhelmed by autograph seekers.

I love the vintage shirt idea!

I see what you mean, the hardest part for me is deciding what I would send in to sign.

Some ideas for shirts:

- Pathways into Darkness shirt Kind of like the box art on the shirt
- Myth Shirt
- Oni shirt
- Marathon shirt
- Legacy shirt: Oni, Marathon, Halo, Myth, etc all on one shirt.

I personally think it's a great idea and disagree with you. I think there're plenty of users who are willing to change their name, even it it does take a price. My thread points out that you yourself would want to change your name. Perhaps not for a price, but still you desire an alteration.
