ok i have looked at the trailer many times and from what i can see this explosion has happened before becouse of the crator that the round thing is setting in now. when you stop the movie right at the part where the light comes out of the hole you can kinda see a shape in it like its a ship or somthing, now maybe it is not the ark at all but just a place where a ship has been stored to take the people to another world and the huge swirling hole in the sky is some kind of wormhole or portal so that leaves us to believe that maybe the forruners created another world to send the people of the ark to. .........just my thoughts, tell me what you guys think

In response to the OP:

Ther Halo HAVE been fired before. Therefore, if the artifact IS the Ark, and the crater was caused by the Ark "firing", then it would make sense for a crater to be there.

the ark is supposed to save the universe from the Flood. The Elites may have teamed up with earth, i think that all the ships are being opperated by elites, and they are activating the ark and saving everyone. DUH!!!

It's not the ark!!! The ark is that weird Forerunner ship that the prophet of truth is flying in on at the end of Halo 2 that the Master Chief has stowed away on!!! For crying out loud, they SAY IT AT THE END OF HALO 2!!!! She (oh -blam!-, what's her name? I haven't played in so long), Keyes' daughter, asks what the ark is, and then it cuts right away to the giant Forerunner ship that the Master Chief is on! Don't you people get it?

The ark is the ship, because that's what arks are: ships. Like Noah's ark. Not only that, but I guarantee that when the Halos are activated, the Ark is a sort of safe haven (you know, like how Noah's ark was a save haven from the flood!), and that the few Forerunner who survived to become Humans rode aboard the Ark, or another Ark just like it!!! Duh!!

Just because the camera cuts to the ship the Prophet and the MC are on, doesn't mean that that is the Ark. I'm not saying it's NOT, either, but the camera change doesn't prove anything.

so you are saying that it could b like an ark holding place or something...and the figure (if there is one) is the ark flying through the "wormhole"

OK, dude, instead of 343 answering her question directly with words, they basically answer it visually by showing the Ark. It's pretty obvious; besides, why else would one measly Forerunner ship be so important?

In addition, how do you think the Prophets first survived the original Halo activation hundreds of thousands of years ago?? (After all, the prophets, according to the books, evolved on the same planet as the Forerunner, so they must have survived somehow!) They probably rode on the Ark, which is why the thing is stuck in High Charity! (OK, so, scrap my previous idea that the Forerunner took the Ark to survive and become humans. Sorry for contradicting myself, but I think my new theory is better)

So, yeah, technically you're right, it's not proof. But, I think it's close-a-damn-nough.

I really need to make this a new topic, but I can't, because I had to re-make my profile since I didn't log on for so long that I think my profile got dropped or something. (I'm not really sure, but it didn't log me in properly. Oh well, I don't really care)

If the "it" you refer to is the artifact in the trailer, then I agree. The Ark I speak of is the ship that is at the end of Halo 2 that the Master Chief is on when he says "Finishing this fight." THAT is the Ark, it's basically said outright at the end of Halo 2.

Yes and that dropship was probably carrying the Arbiter, thats why it was guarded by a bunch of banshees, they were assaulting the Ark.

While, as you said, it could be a visual answer to Miranda's question, you need to think of it this way: What would have happened if, instead of cutting directly to the forerunner ship, the camera cut to a secret base on Earth somewhere, the computers and things inside the base suddenly came online, and after that cut to the scene where the Forerunner ship is flying to Earth? You would think the secret base was the Ark, and not the Forerunner ship. Cutting to the ship could have been to keep the story on track.
