I love you

Can somebody please explain all they know about them. I haven't read the Forunner saga of books yet so I'm not sure about them. I would like to know about them and I don't care about spoilers so you can say everything.

Step 1. Read the Forerunner Books.

Step 2. gain information.

Step 3. ?????

Step 4. Profit.

Precursors are a race of technologically advanced beings that created the Forerunners, and Humans. They either came across, or created the Flood and realized they were the true answer to the Mantle and then deliberately infected themselves with the flood.

We should know better, because we are better.

They were an ancient civilization that created and estroyed life seemingly on a whim. They made their structure nearly indestructible, save for a Halo. They were the people behind the Flood. They wanted to kill Forerunners so the Forerunners killed them.

So in a way, the Precursors are the flood...?

Yes that is exactly what the Timeless One, A Precursor Gravemind, said.

"Precursors and the Flood. There is no difference."

Sounds interesting. So the Gravemind in 2-3 is technically a Precursor? Which means the Precursors aren't completely wiped out?

Correct. It was strongly implied that some Precursors escaped the Forerunners and left for elsewhere.

Not exactly. That is up for speculation. We don't know for sure if/how the Gravemind's conscious is moved to every new Gravemind after the previous body was destroyed. The reason being is that it is confirmed that there can be multiple Graveminds at one time.

It may be possible that Gravemind from Halo 2/3 is the TO's conscious, but it definitely is not made out of Precursor biomass.

What freaks me out about the Timeless one; Is that the secrets he told were so horrific, that the ancient humans who knew about it killed themselves on the spot.

and then the first human contact of the flood was in a vessel that came from outside the galaxy.

So perhaps they left to try spread the influence of the flood, By placing flood molecules into the tubes aboard multiple vessels and launching them.

So, for all we know, thousands of vessels could have spread across the universe, all containing little bits of flood.

Perhaps the vessel that crash landed on Installation04 was one of those flood vessels, Built in with an automatic distress call so that species would open it to help and become infected, Making it kind of a lucky escape that Spark didn't open it, Otherwise by the time the events of the game happened, The Flood would be vastly greater.

Alright. So now that we have that cleared p I have 2 quick questions. I know Forunners didn't like the humans too much, so why did they make them inheritors of their tech? AND, since were going to a Forunner shield world, I'm also certain we'll see them(IMO). So for question 2, do you think they'll be the enemy, or the Precursors that are thought to have escaped. Sorry for the questions, I'm just a very curious person.

The librarian decided that the humans were inheritors of the mantle. The forerunners realized that they were not worthy of running the show. Since they were defeated by the flood. So, basically they became shameful of themselves. For question number 2, i think it has to do something with the timeless one.

1. The Librarian showed other Forerunners the purpose of the Humans, and after the TO told the Didact the Humans were to be the Inheritors of the mantle, Forerunners began to change their views on Humanity.

2. Most likely. It is implied by 343GS that the Didact won't be too happy with what Humanity is doing right now, so Forerunners may be a temporary enemy. The TO one did say that they would return in 100,000 years to judge humanity as the true inheritors of the Mantle, so they will be a definite enemy.

No problem.

Lots of things are still confusing about the Forerunner-Flood era, so these are the best answers we can give you.

Where does it say in Primordium that they worshiped the flood?

the precursors are many different races. One of them being the flood, another one was the nelkrons but they quit.

  • 01.22.2012 2:26 PM PDT

OK, but what are the "original" precursors. They definitely aren't flood. They left the galaxy as well as the forerunners. Also, the timeless one doesn't have to be a flood. Could be some other race.
