While bungie was making halo 2, they got a call from Gates or some other high up Microsoft executive that went something like this "hey, we want you to cut halo 2 in half, save some good stuff for the xbox 360, but we also want a second halo to boost xbox 1 sales."
So alot of the single player content was stripped, mainly large battles on earth, and the actual fight to save it, and bungie came up with the covenant perspective and all the delta halo crap. Look at it and it makes perfect sense. The halo 2 announcement trailer shows Earth in a far worse condition than halo 3's announcement trailer. The E3 video for halo 2, shows a huge city under siege, being infested by covenant and ripped apart. Now look at the game of halo 2. We have one level fighting off boarders on a MAC gun, one level running around through the back streets and slums of a city, then driving through a tunnel. And then one level of driving over a bridge, and by the time you are actually in something that could be considered a city, all you do is kill the scarab and leave. Off to play as the arbiter, go to Delta halo, fight some more flood there, go to High Charity, and then stop the Halo from being activated. It seems like they had to undergo a massive story line change, and instead of having halo 2 be the fight to save earth like the promo videos showed, it is just a big time waster. Seeing as how this will be the final halo in this storyline, I am hoping that they won't be pressed for a seasonal release, and will be able to take their time, and put in all the good content they were forced to chop from halo 2.

You say this as though you know it actually happened. Its a good theory, but you really gotta work on how you sell yourself during an essay. Your saying theory, but your projecting conspiracy.

Or,Bungie didn't have enough time to implement everything they wanted to in Halo 2, but were planning on making Halo 3 anyways.Watch the DVD from the Limited Edition Halo 2. Bungie has had everything planned out almost from the beginning. And it was just a big time waster? Halo 2 revealed a ton of plot. The demo they showed at E3 was just that- a demo. They made it to showcase Halo 2, they did not mean for it to be part of the game. And if Halo 2 just took place on Earth, it'd get boring. No running around the galaxy to see strange new locations.

Well what other explaination do you have for the complete removal of the "Defend the earth" feeling from halo 2, that was largely promoted by the only two story line involved video's they showed us.

Or they could've been rushed and not been able to meet the audience's standards.

They showed us one aspect of the plot, they wont give the entire thing away. Read my edited post.

there was a ton of plot revealed in Halo 2 and it involved the covenant perspective which is important despite what some say. This was to prepare you for Halo 3. There are so many loose ends in Halo 2 that Halo 3 should be able answerthem all(i hope).

I agree that halo 2 turned out to be filled with an immense amount of plot, but it lacked in the critical fun department. It was cool going around the galaxy, and we were told from the start we would visit a covenant planet, so that was expected. But if I wanted to be soaked up to my ears in plot, I'd watch a movie. I was expecting huge exciting battles. From what they showed us, it led many of us to believe we were going to spend more than two levels fighting on Earth, in battles larger that just you taking out a few wraiths or a scarab, that conveniently stops itself by the way.

Bungie made statement's that went something like this, Imagine halo 1 wrapped in bacon on fire doing 150 mph through a hospital zone being chased by ninjas and helicopters. The ninjas are on fire too., and Imagine flying above a wartorn city in a banshee, while marines in warthogs and tanks charge through the streets below you, blowing up every covenant they see.

Maybe you got something different out of that, but to me, I get the impression that I will be defending Earth in large scale battles. Not driving through a tunnel for 20 minutes. It could have been that their due date was approaching so fast, but who set the due date?

Bungie has always stated that Halo is about telling a great story before any other thing. Halo can be more immersive in plot than a movie can, since you are directly in control. And again, they just showed that demo to show us what Halo 2 can do. Some elements of it made it into the game. Besides, if they had a huge Covenant invasion it wouldnt go along with the plot. You'll get your wish in Halo 3. Although it more than likely wont just take place on Earth, because, when you have the possibility of going to other planets, who wants to stay on just one?

For those of you who watch the extra's in the collectors eddition of Halo 2, you will know that they had the cut out some of the story line in the game. If your theory is correct than why (with the knowledge of another game) would they cut out a lot of the story line for Halo 2?

His thoughts are not broken up correctly either. I don't think they'd do that, i he just wants them to do that because you he does not have or is not planning on getting an Xbox 360.

This is great because it's not a theory its the truth. It makes me sad too bc I remeber buying halo 2 and throwing it in my box and then being upset bc I had to play as this worthless covy and was tricked into thinking I would save the world

Show me proof that Bill Gates ordered Bungie to cut it in half. Watch the DVD from the LE version. And if you didn't like it, to bad. Bungie sticks to the storyline. Thats one thing they do not change for the fans.

Did you just -blam!- say that in halo 2 the announcement trailer looked far worse than halo 3? Are you colorblind? Maybe to you, halo 2 trailer looked alot mroe devastating because there was so much action. But if you haven't noticed, New Mombasa is completely gone. How is attacking something far more devastating that something being completely gone?

  • 05.14.2006 11:06 PM PDT

No, in the documentary, Bungie had to make the deadline and had to cut some stuff

  • 05.14.2006 11:08 PM PDT

Wakka Wakka Wump!
No I freaking told you to cut the hose off, if i told to pull it off then i would have said pull it off. Now you broke the AC you dumb ass.
Me to my mother.

yeah all you haters.... try not to bash theories....because a theory is just that: a theory, everything is possible, and there is some deviation between the halo 2 trailer and the game... which makes it worth talking about. quite frankly, i think that there is a pretty good chance that at least something got cut, based merely on the deadline. when designers go into crunch, stuff gets left out, whether ordered by Gate$ or not. On the flip side tho... is it really enough to make you mad enough not to get your copy of H3? not me, boy.
