I go back and play Halo's campaign all the way through about twice a year, it's just that good.
In my opinion, Halo:CE's campaign was better. The plot twists were genuinely surprising and the pacing was great. In Halo 2, big chunks of the story seemed like quick hashes. The moment of discovery of Delta Halo played out like this: "Hey, whoa, there's another Halo! Oh, wait, that's not surprising at all, and I definitely guessed it was coming at the start of this 15 second cut-scene. Hmm, that was damn underdeveloped, oh well."
The lack of any real climax didn't help either, and the last fight and cutscene on Delta Halo seemed like filler stuff before the cliffhanger.
And oh ya, I have to include this story. I once watched a bunch of little kids who had played Halo once or twice, if ever, play a 14 player game on Battle Creek. They were getting 5-6 shot kills consistanty with the pistol, and were simultaneously getting so excited they'd lose any real dexterity and fall off their chairs.
Moral: Any idiot can get easy kills with the pistol, the truly skillful 3-shot doesn't even matter, you just have to shoot first. To say that it made the game is woefully stupid.
Yea, i loved Halo 1's campaign. But while playing Halo 2's it felt like a chore. It really wasnt fun
