When I launch Halo 2 I can never sign into Live. It says theres a network problem but I am connected to the internet anyways. I can also sign into Live on Batman AC and GTA 4. I have Windows 7 64bit.

Thanks for any help,

Three things to try:

1) Update the GFWL client (unlikely to be the case as you can sign into Batman AC)

2) If you have Xfire, disable it. Halo 2 did not let me sign in whenever Xfire was running.

3) Provided Xfire's the problem and you want to use it, you can over a wireless connection.

Those are the only things i can think of. Hopefully that's the cause of the issue. If not then i'm not sure what to suggest.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

Xfire actually causes all of my GFWL sign-ins to fail too. Took me a while to figure that one out.

I do not have Xfire.

Try Wireless, open ports, port forward.

Update GFWL client, if not then it's just the game.

Not sure how to do that....

Should I just re-install Halo 2?

If you don't have a cd key entered (registered) that's your problem...

otherwise I had the same problem too for a while, check your network settings.

Why on earth do people use Xfire...?

Because it's pretty sweet?

Convenience. It's far easier to just click 'join game' on someone's Xfire than having to type in the IP to join. Very helpful for me in games like Halo and Battlefield 2.

Only it can interfere with some GFWL games. I prefer Steam but Xfire is still very good. Origin's in it's infancy and I've yet to see any compelling features from them.

It's registered.

Update the GFWL client. If you have the GFWL marketplace on your PC, either delete it or make sure it's updated, then try Halo 2 again.

Port forwarding I can't remember exactly but there are plenty of guides on the internet for that.

As for re-installing, NO. Unless you want the infamous feature to enhance gameplay (In other words, your CD key will no longer work, you have 5 installs per Halo 2 so use it wisely)

Got the problem fixed. Went to the in-game network settings and changed the connection to WiFi instead of LAN that I used awhile ago. Simple fix.

Actually your key is stored in appdata\xlive path\game title\token.bin

Uninstalling won't delete that, and unless your computer changes PCID and PCA, you should be able to reinstall any number of times.

Actually it does count. Why else do you think it asks for the key? Each time you put the key in through GFWL it does count. Why do you think so many people have come by screaming because they can't install the game due to how many times they had to uninstall/install their copy of Halo 2 Vista because they were running into problems?
