If you look at a suit of armor in a museum that was actually used for combat, you'd find it to be VERY small, probably no more than 5 feet. Around 1000ad the average height of a human male was near 5 feet tall. By 1970 it was up to 5'9, just 30 years later it's up to 5'11. Each generation is better nutritioned than the next, plus their is growth hormone in our food. In 500 years it's not inconcievable that the average height of a human could be in the 6'5 range. I believe the spartans were slightly taller after their bone graphs, which would explain the extra couple inches.
