I don't think they ever mentioned anything about Destiny being a trilogy.

Bungie must have a lot of manpower these days if they are planning a new trilogy AND a second IP.

"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

Great news! He always seemed very passionate about what he was working on, and having time off I'm sure he put that passion into being a family man. It seems he has a plan laid out for this chapter of his life so he won't appear to be working all the time.

I'm very glad he is back. He has done some great work in the past and i'm very interested to see what he does next.

The tide is turning, brothers! Let us take our kingdom back!

Something else other than Destiny, eh?

A new team, eh? Hmm. This'll be interesting. I hope he keeps us posted.

I suspect llamas are secretly wizards. I <3 poptarts n' milk. I like me. Grimick is defined as: a logical parodox, the act of funnaling a potato down your throat, and a deliciously flavored muffin (with pecons and blueberries). Norway is the Swedish word for 'moron'. My sister has cancer, so i get to use handicap parking and cut small children in line at Disneyland.

"Don't eat doughnuts on thin ice."

"The pancake, my friend, has officially been flipped."

They're going to make him play for the newbies team :0!

This is good to read. I'm also happy to see his blog, he writes well and it's clear he's a very principled man, which was also very clear from the ViDocs but good to see in his prose as well.

Great news!!

  • 01.23.2012 12:54 AM PDT

I didn't know he left. :|

It's cool that he's at Bungie again; at least I knew what he did and how awesome he is.

My future is certain, I will one day fly away. All because I am saved from the penalty of sin. I know he lives.

Was he the guy that was all about the water graphics?

And now he is back to doing it again on the new IP.

All I have to say is I'm glad he is back.
I am glad he's back too, but if you read carefully he does not specify what IP he's working on. Bungie has several (at least) IP's running at one time if you consider Crimson, the current new universe, and the fact that they have talked in the past bout having lots of ideas they want to pursue but that they were locked into Halo for forever. It sounds more like He and Tung have something to explore and round out before they make an official start to it with a team.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Yes, I read that the dates of release for Myth and Marathon games came out around the same time as each other (within 1-2 years apart. late 90's). There could be 2 IPs being made but I think the current focus is probably on 1 project.

Not to be a smartass, but I don't think anyone from Bungie has specified what IP they are working on.

I don't consider Crimson to be a Bungie IP. They aren't really developing anything for it, just managing and publishing the game via Bungie Aerospace.

But really it could just be misinterpreted wording. He does in fact say that he is working on a "brand new IP." But what is considered "brand new." Is that an IP that he started 3 days ago or an IP that has yet to have a game released for. And he talks about how Joe Tung and him are going to "start the construction of a brand new team and project." But from my understanding, new projects and teams can be formed and work on the same title. For example, Marcus Lehto talked on the podcast how they created a team in Halo: Reach for a water level in which the spartans could ride in a boat. It was in prototyping for about 6 months and got cut.

In all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised if he started working on a new IP (as in today being his first day back to Bungie). It wasn't uncommon at all back in the old days of Bungie. They started a few projects right after the release of Myth: TFL. Those projects being Oni, Myth II, and Halo. But I'm just not a 100% convinced that he means a completely different project than what a majority of the people at Bungie are working on.

That's not smart-ass at all. I agree. I would find it hard to believe that they really constrain themselves to one or two ideas studio-wide. One of the hard things about working with creative people is keeping them targeted on a small suite of ideas that they can go bananas with while letting them run free and not feel like they're imprisoned. If you squash that creativity OR don't help them manage it things go horribly, horribly wrong. Hence my assumption that they maintain a healthy amount of cool stuff while not letting creative brain-barf occur rampantly.

Their next game better have rocket boots!

I made that up.

I thought people where joking when they said he left. Wasn't he a halo ce marine action figure?

Good thing he returned, who else is gonna wear a tucked in shirt on stage?

Wohoo! One of the Grizzled Ancients returns is exciting news. Marcus had such a powerful hand in making Halo: CE. Was really sad when he left. Hearing him return is awesome.

I hope Brian Jarrard returns too. Soon.
