Subject: P2P gaming will be improving this summer (Reach/Halo related)

If you guys haven't heard IPv6 will be launched globally on June 6th this year. For those who don't know what IPv6 is, put it this way the current Internet Protocol we are using is IPv4 which still uses the NAT system. Pretty much every router and ISP will be supporting Ipv6 by June 6th too, 360 does not current have it implemented but the 360 can support IPv6.

Now what does this have to do with P2P gaming? Well IPv6 gets rid of NAT so no more having to worry about having someone with strict or moderate NAT anymore so everyone will be able to connect easily and it also allows for direct connections to each other which should improve the P2P experience over all.

Kind of a PSA but P2P gaming should be better in the future :)

Micro$oft will never improve to IPv6.

If they do, then great, but I don't see it coming.

Call me Stu

Will there still be host advantage then?

Life is a journey, if you spend all of it with your nose in your map, you may miss some of the best parts.

Not Reach/Halo related at all. More like console-related.

It's peer to peer. There will always be a host advantage.

The Xbox 1 was built with IPv6 support and so was the 360. All they need to do is enable it via an update.

One minor flaw;

- those without knowledge/ability to enable NAT generally also lack the knowledge/ability to have a decent connection.

- these same 'crap connection consoles' also have virgin host records, and a clean record == 100% host selection.
(remember when they performed the host record reset?)

- halo/reach still uses the stupid host record. So brace yourself for a new level of sub-grade hosts being released.
IPv6 and IPv4 do not work together in multiplayer games so only IPv6 people will be playing with IPv6 people, so if you enable it when the 360 gets the update you will be in no NAT MP all the time :)

@chesney

This is true, China ran out of IPv4 addresses and Europe will run out this summer. USA is good until 2013 but both China and Europe are pretty much forcing everyones hands here.

DerpyDerp. They're going to IPv6 because IPs for IPv4 are all (or soon going to be) used up. Keep derpin'.

Keep in mind also that many players using a business class connection must maintain heavy firewall security, which usually translates into a strict NAT. I'll add one to the good hosts available.
