Subject: Scarab as a mining vehicle?

Q. What do you get when you add 1 man, 1 car, and 1 rocket built for a jet?

A. A black smudge on the side of a cliff.

Think about it: the scarab is slow and not very manuverable. It's cannot turn quickly like the wraith, and it's rear gun isn't that effective. Also, isn't the thing near indestrucable anyway? How do you think the covies dug out that big hole? I think some scarabs had somthing to do with it. Their giant gun melts throught anything, and you be a great excavation vehicle. So, what dp you think?

I remember reading something in the books about giant machines used for excavation at Reach, and thinking "omg scarab".

Yes, I thought "oh emm gee".

Halopedia.org says that it is used for mining, and I think so too, because it doesn't fit to battle at all.

It's way too clumsy, it's main gun cannot turn, it's way too big for ground ops.
Only thing that is good in the battlefield on Scarab are the two smaller guns, but they are no good, when a Phantom has three and it flies.
Btw, those smaller guns are probably put there to destroy planes, but it doesn't have any guns under. Designed to the battlefield? Nope.

Only place it's main gun could work against enemy is on a plain, where it can move and devastate enemy lines. But still, it's belly cannot fire at ground troops below it and it has a very limited firing range because of that.

The nearly indestructible armor helps it to get out of a tunnel in one piece.
Even the name "scarab" referes to digging.

Bungie listens to its fans! ^.^ | Ninja .II./ You

Covenant vehicles that are used for combat tend to have names of spirits, like "Ghost" and "Wraith" etc.

A scarab is not a ghost. It is a beetle. =P

The main gun reminds me of AVP: dig a single long shaft in the ground all the way to the target object. Something tells me the Scarab isn't meant to dig itself underground.

This apple is brown, and rotten. This orange on the other hand, is in relatively average shape. So the orange is definitely the preferable option.
----------You can't compare apples and oranges. You're so dumb.

Yes it is a mining tool which is why ive very interested about the artifact sound exactly like a scarab primary. and having quite a few similar features with a scarab primary. One thing is for sure it's a weapon and has really no direct relationship with halo as they were moving away from it. Also bungies reasoning on the storm swirling above is rather interesting. Frankie said it's happening because of "sub atomic energies". The thing is a scarab is an egyptian bug that would dig under human and animal flesh. So indeed it's safe to say a scarab is ment to excavate.

This just occurred to me...
If the scarab is a mining vehicle, then what did the Covenant intend to dig up on Halo 05?
