Old Bungie would have posted a front page article, then debuted the "meat" at some trade show. Usually a teaser. An ARG would come a bit later. Lots of stuff going on over at bungie.org and other fan sites, and some press stuff.
Current Bungie...is another story. They don't seem to do things the same way. That makes sense as companies evolve, and since this is an all new IP, no one really knows what to expect.
I'd imagine it will start with a bang. Probably a teaser trailer that came from no where. Then a front page blip, which hints at a few things, but doesn't really give us any pertinent info. The "wet their appetites" phase if you will. I'd imagine the big stuff will come from trade shows, because you have to build hype well prior to the game release. Fansites will really go into overdrive with speculation and content as its slowly released.
I hope the ARG is something else this time around. Perhaps I'm just used to them now, but no ARG "hooked" me like ilovebees.com did. I hope Bungie and/or whomever they contract to make the ARG really breaks some new ground here. I think for the new IP, the ARG will have to be outside of the box in an all new way. Some cryptic info here and a clue there just won't do it IMO.
I guess I pretty much posted Bungie's old order of operations. Oh well, you stick with what you know. I guess we'll all see at some point what Bungie has in store for us.
