a map maker for PC version would be fine (if there's a PC Halo 3). It would be more compatable and everyone would have more room to "save" a created map to a HD, otherwise you'll have to "squeeze" it on to a 20GB 360 HD which will be 3/4 of the way full by the time H3 comes out....
unless Mi¢rosoft comes out with a bigger HD (40GB? 60GB?...cost?), there probably wouldn't be a map editor.
Ok one thing you should know is that depending on how the map is compiled they can be extremely small or extremely large, my bet is that if Bungie were to make a map editor for halo 3 it would be embedded in the game to be a program that is executed through the xbox 360, but controlled via PC(likely running Vista) in this you would have access to all the textures used in Halo 3 on all of the game levels as well as access to models/props, then when the map is compiled it simply leaves references as to where to get that texture/model and it is loaded directly from the disk, thus the size of the map is noticeably smaller but at the expense of a longer loading time, and even in that unless bungie is using 1024x1024 or higher resolutions for the textures the .bmps will be relatively small.
