I would like to see an enhanced spectator feature in Halo 3. I know you can start getting into lag and processing issues with extra people, but it would be cool especially in tournaments.

Ideas:
1. Specatators represented in gameplay as drones who are free to "flyover" the environment and watch. Nothing elaborate, maybe something like what we see in G.R.A.W.

2. In maps that lend themselves to an arena feel spectators could be limited to areas or "stands" in which they could fly around to get better views.

3. Spectators could interact with each other (cheer or get rowdy). Possibly with a drone blaster that is limited to the stands.

4. Players could have the ability to pick-off rowdy spectators with a sniper rifle or part of a stand with a rocket launcher.

5. As a game option the final outcome of a game could depend partly upon how many spectators you have in your stands. (Spectators could respawn in your stands when you shoot tham out of your opponent's.)

6. Somehow of identifying the drones, such as using gamer pictures or state/country flags from gamercards, would be cool.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

I like the idea of the fly-over view. The only issue as you stated would be any lag. It would make a neat way to create montages.

I think we should have free-range within reason, and be able to speak with other spectators, and maybe even be interactive with the players. Imagine being a spectator/character like a monitor. Floating around in a little ball that glowed in the same color as your primary Player color, Immune to gunfire, but still visible.

(Not in certain gametypes, but in FFA and whatnot)

Yea.. spectators should be able to communicate with spectators ONLY. Spectators should be able to hear what players are saying though.

I think that we should be allowed to fly about freely but also watch from players POVs

I would think that would be a huge distraction. I would have to go around shooting at those damn things the whole game. Especially if I saw one was you Jim. ;)

By spectators I imagined not being part of an online game, but instead of playing you just watch how players fare with an adjustable camera.

Ha! Well maybe a specific spectator mode then, Regular spectators just be invisible (a la Wolfenstein) but maybe 4 slots (first come - first served) be "Monitor" (or Oracle, if you play as an Elite) slots. And as a monitor you can still communicate with other spectators, but any talking you do translates into "HmmmHmmmHmmm I am a Genius!" to the people playing the gametype. It shouldn't be a huge distraction, especially if they built in a movement algorithm so that you couldn't really sit in one place for long. I dunno, I just think that would be cool as hell.

Actually that would be better. You could still get to see all the action but not influence it. also with the first come first serve aspect it would eliminate people using the spectators as their eyes and ears on the battlefield.

Being able to see from the persons face or free roam like COD2 or the MLGPRO servers that they have for Halo. And No I dont want to be able to see people or allow them to be able to move around the map being seen but fire is ammune. Why cause if im fireing and somebody gets in my way and my bullets hit him instead of my oponents than I just might have to go on a boot fest.

Just a invisible ball to all except other spectators with whom you can interact, and just float in a wide range of the players but not everywhere you like.

I'm one of those storm chasers that will never have a TV show because I don't scream at clouds.

I would like to see an observer mode like the respawn camera from Halo 2, but with the ability to rotate and tilt, and without the auto view switch thing.

Halo's a hell of a drug.

Imagine if there was a really great game planned to be played. What if 500 people jumped into that game? Would that slow the connection down?

id like specatators and be seen so it would look like the monitor or a sentinel flying over

I like the idea of being able to fly around, that would be awsome in game with only a couple of lives in 'em. I also prefere GGJ's idea of playing as the Monitor as to the drone.

I don't have PGR3, but can't users watch any game they want in Gotham TV without affecting the connection?

Maybe as a multiplayer option...

8 people could play and 8 people could be drone spectators.
