Using Firefox 9.0.1, most of the sites I visit are written in the address bar without the http:// prefix. As such, when I come to copy them into forum posts, most of the time they won't work with the URL tags. However, on other forums I have no issues with this. I don't suppose anyone else has this small issue? It just makes linking a tiny bit more problematic as sometimes it's there, and sometimes it's not.

Any chance the URL tag can be changed to accept just www. as well as http://?

Like I said, it's only a teenie tiny thing.

Whoo.

Yeah, the site could use some updating.

And since probably a large amount of people use firefox this'll probably be a welcome addition.

Key

Usually when sites don't have that in the address, it appears when I paste it. Maybe it's a chrome thing, idk.

It's the same with Firefox too.

It's just the small things that make general use of the site a little easier. Forget these silly "like post" ideas, and just work on what we've got says I.

I'm not understanding. When I copy any address from firefox, it automatically pastes the http:// part.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

I would rather see it allow/accept the https:// prefix.

The hell? Now all of a sudden it's pasting the http:// as well...

I'll have to keep linking and see what's going on. I linked something from youtube earlier and it didn't include the http://.

Another tweak which could be useful.

From what I can tell, the new Firefox cuts out the "http://" whenever you manipulate the URL in any way before you copy it. If you leave it completely alone before you copy / paste it, the "http://" remains. Annoying but not too big of a deal in my opinion.

Jack of all trades, master of none.

never had the problem myself, using FF

  • 01.23.2012 10:46 AM PDT

Yeah the 'http://' part is never there, but it always puts it in automatically when I copy. I too use Firefox.

Internet Explorer Master Race doesn't have this problem.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

FF does the same thing for me, but it also pastes the hypertext transfer protocol part of the URL when I paste it somewhere. However, a tweak to the code, if possible, that will accept the URL without the http:/ couldn't hurt.

This post brought tears to my eyes. Gone are the days my little JB using IE.

Indeed.

I agree with the OP. But not to tanget the topic, I think a WYSIWYG with his suggestion would be even better.

I think a that sort of editor would be over kill for this site, seeing how many features are probably cut off by the web team.

Heavy weighs the crown, low hangs the head who wears it.

I'll share this as it should be helpful to those using Firefox.

You can change a setting in Firefox to have it display the full address (http:// and all).

You need to go to the address about:config in your url bar.

You'll want to find a setting called browser.urlbar.trimURLs and set it to false.

This will stop Firefox from "t-blam!-" addresses.

Enjoy.
