Subject: Covenant species after the covenant is no more

After the events of halo 3, it is insinuated that the covenant is no more, so what will happen next?

Does that mean that halo 4, 5, 6, etc will have no more grunts to chase, brutes to troll, and elites to combat with anymore?

I don't want to see the end of this, so I'm guessing 343 industries will make some more prequels, like Halo Reach was?

Also, considering that the brutes are deamed the "bad guys" instead of the elites, as well as the fact that they have a well known array of vehicles and weapons of their own within the halo universe, could it be implied that the brutes will make a comeback in future halo games to come as the main enemies?

Please, share your thoughts.

I think you should read Halo: Glasslands, it covers the events immediately following the war. Long story short, the different Covenant species have their own internal factions, and without the prophets wrangling them all it leads to a situation where, for example, many elites still hate humanity. For the sake of spoilers I won't give any real details, but it's a good read if you like the backstory. In any case, it sets up the possibility of fighting Covie species again

Though if I was to give my own two cents, I would speculate that the Brutes don't have the logistics and leadership strength to mount any sort of legitimate war effort

Fighting them as a side enemy, though, not the main enemies.

The Elites and Brutes waged war well until 2558.

Ok so maybe the brutes don't have the capability to launch some huge ass war with humans, still, that doesn't mean they wouldn't pose a threat to humanity. Plus, they could forge some kind of alliance with their former covenant allies, such as the jackals maybe?

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

The Covenant species just like to go on long strolls now and think about stuff.

But, seriously, there's going to be a new enemy for the new Halo trilogy. I think 343i needs to let go of the Covenant if they're going to take Halo somewhere Bungie couldn't.

If the Brutes can fight the Elites for 6 years after 2552, they could pose a threat to the UNSC, who are at their weakest since the dawn of slipspace travel. Besides, the Jackals are pirates and merchants who only want money at this point, hardly reliable soldiers.

But the jackals were relatively reliable to the covenant. The brutes could offer something other than money in return for service with the them. Besides, I'm sure the jackals would love an alliance so they can wipe out the unggoy and/or obtain new power over certain planets. Better to be with another than be by yourself, right?

Right, while they had the leadership of the prophets. Once the prophets fled the elites got the upper hand quickly, as would be expected. Though I guess since H4 is set to happen in 2553 there could still be a significant brute military presence in it, hypothetically.

No they weren't. Ever heard of the Kig-Yar Pirate Prince who had to be put down by an Arbiter? And even when the Covenant fell apart, they dealt with anyone, showing they barely respected the Covenant. Period.

The brutes could offer something other than money in return for service with the them.

Such as...?

Besides, I'm sure the jackals would love an alliance so they can wipe out the unggoy and/or obtain new power over certain planets.

Seems like they are fine with making money and stealing -blam!-.

Better to be with another than be by yourself, right?

Again, they don't seem to be up to power-grabbing. Hell, they are pretty comfy with human rebels on the planet Venezia.

Right, while they had the leadership of the prophets.

The Return never stated that. Evidence please.

Once the prophets fled the elites got the upper hand quickly, as would be expected.

Both sides are in decline.

Maybe.
