Subject: ODST's in Halo games.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

And as for the OP, I can only assume ODSTs hate the Spartans because the ODSTs were to be exactly how the Spartans are. But they never received the augmentations and training the Spartans did. So you could say the ODSTs are the first wave of failed Spartans. I believe that's why they hate the Spartans.

LOLWUT

ODSTs are all volunteers. By your logic, if you signed up after the SPARTAN program was announced, you would be bitter that you weren't selected to be a Spartan. Are the civilians bitter about it too? How about the animals?

ODSTs were around before the Spartan project was even thought of, genius.

So were all the other branches of the military. The ODSTs are not the first failed wave of Spartans. The ORION project was the first attempt at making Spartans, but it was a failure and quietly shelved (watch "Be Human" ~ Halo Legends). Sgt. Johnson is technically a SPARTAN-I and it made him able to be immune to the Flood. (Read, Halo: The Flood (I think)). The reason the ODSTs have a rough relationship with the Spartans is because the ODSTs were the best of the best. Then, the Spartans come in with their augmentations and fancy, high tech armor so the spotlight quickly goes toward the Spartans and the ODSTs quickly become the unsung heroes. That's why there's a rocky relationship between them. They were "replaced" in a way. (It's also explained in the special disc of Halo: Legends by Eric Nylund himself.)

Okay, my bad. I read somewhere that they were. That's what I thought the Orion Project was. But I knew it was the fact that the Spartans were introduced with their armor and augmentations.

It's not all ODSTs, just the Helljumpers.

For future reference, the term "Helljumper" is a nickname referring to an ODST. All ODSTs are Helljumpers and vice versa.

This is not true. Only the 105th division are called Helljumpers. Most ODSTs in the games and books come from the 105th, so it seems as though all are called Helljumpers.

Nah they're just pompous -blam!-s that think they're better than everyone because they "don't need" augmentations and can win without it. Heh, go and try to fight an Elite in hand to hand combat that even SPARTANS have problems dealing with and then come talk to me about superiority, that is if you live to do so...
