15000 ping is 15 full seconds the server doesn't get a response. I think that was erroneous, the most i've seen is between 2000 & 3000.

Lol, people like that are probably using like a 233 mhz tower and a 9600 baud modem...

Yes, I'm pretty sure the game was just messed up and the guy actually had a lower ping, but it was still pretty high.

Maw

some people are FORCED to play stuff with low connections. And sometimes you could be
on a Cray 2 Supercomputer and still have a ping of 6000. its not there fault.just drop the subject.

Well, I knew some 1 who was using sattalite connection. He ping was usually around 700 ms to 2000... Anywho since my stupid ISP is always screwing up i desided to ask him to host a game. GOD DAMN!!! I was warping all over the map, getting stuck in walls, suddenly appearing 12 feet above the ground, dieing without even know it. The part that really pissed me off is when I shot 3 sniper rounds to the head, only to find out that i was shooting in the area he'd been 2 seconds ago :/ the fun really started when i threw a plasma gernade and it blew up right in front of him. The game skyrocketed to 7000ms and disconnected.

As for laggy host, its alot of times due to pll having no clue that their upload isnt the same as their download speed. so they sit their and see they have 3mb connection, set their server for 16 players. Then when every body joins the game lags because their upstream is only 126kbps.

Also you have that little warp glitch in halo where even if every 1 has low ping and a semi decent machine you still end up with lag. i mean, i have a 1.8ghz 64 bit AMD CPU 2000mhz bus speed on a ASUS mobo with SLI 4 with Two Geforce 7600's GT's 256 bit PCIe cards with a SATA 160 gig hard drive and ddr 400mhz ram with a 4 meg DSL connection. with a ping of 76ms and the game still give me warps and as i like to call it "lag invinciblity" where you can hit them in the face with a tank round and they still live because the game decides to jump for a second.

At the last Maw gathering, someone was calling people laggers as if it was insulting. Calling a person a lagger on Halo is like calling someone a human in real life.

as the Moniter once said, "please stop being human."

There's an error if you are seeing someone play with a ping of 8000 msecs. For one thing that's 8 seconds delay between the player pressing fire and the result being fed back to them. I find it very hard to believe someone was playing with 8000 ping, it'd be impossible to hit anyone except by pure luck.

as i have said before, lag may be extremely annoying, but you cant blame the people who plays with lag. im sure their symptoms are worse in MP.

lets just blame this on dialup connections for inventing the game lag, and gearbox for screwing up the netcode, and forcing people with high speed broadband connections to play with at least a little lag. G.O.S.H.

I agree. It's not always their fault that they lag. Everybody lags. Trust me. Even if you're the host you can still see people warping across the map. And although I do not mind leading my shots, I can't help but think that people shouldn't have to lead.

Having to lead shots separates the pros from the rookies

So what is an average ping people like to see? I have a decent system, AMD Athlon XP 1.3 GHZ, ATI Radeon 9000 pro (128MB), 1 Gig Ram, and I believe most of the graphics settings are set to an average level. Also, I have highspeed cable internet connection. I always seem to get a ping between 150-250, and the game seems jittery at times. I'm always worried that it's my fault, but I really have no way of knowing. Is this a normal range? If not, how can I improve it?
Thanks!

1-Don't bump an old topic

2-A great ping is 30-70, 100-200 is a little low...but decent. Anything 300+ is bad.

OMG. Please don't bump.

Your system specs have nothing to do with ping, only your connection. I usually play with 37-100 ping games. Try to play games with 150 ping or less.

Sorry for bumping, but what else should I do? Start a new topic for the same topic? I'm just trying to not be one of those lagging players that everyone hates. Besides, it's only a few weeks old, not exactly an old topic IMO.

Anyway, so is there anything that can be done to improve or tweak your connection? Or do you just have to live with what you have?

Switching to a better service, making sure no one else is hogging any bandwidth while you're playing, etc.

Well, I have COX, which is always very stable and consistent, and have no problems with it otherwise, which is why I wondered if it could simply be my computer settings. Not really any other choices for highspeed around here.

Anyway, thanks for the info.
