You guys diss reach because you don't like change.
This kind of invalidates your argument... The fact that you acknowledge the fact that Reach has changed the fundimental Halo gameplay is a definite indicator that it's being pushed more towards the more generic FPS games on the market.
We don't need change. Halo's tried and true formula worked just fine from Halo CE - ODST, then Reach completely changed it. Equipment was tolerable in Halo 3 because it had a long respawn time (around 45 seconds to 1 minute), but AAs are utterly ridiculous. It convoluted the gameplay completely by removing strategic gameplay and the need for teamwork.
For example, with a jetpack, there's suddenly no point in getting the high ground because anyone can just fly up and take it. In the previous games you had to work with your team to take a strategic position, be it the Sniper spot on Lockout or the enemy base on Avalanche.
The fact that Master Chief wasn't in Reach has absolutely nothing to do with the dislike towards the gameplay, in fact my favourite Halo game is ODST and that only has 2 characters from the trilogy in it [Truth and Johnson] and they're only in it as cameos.
You do understand that the game must evolve, though, right? Keep the core focus of strategic team work and all that there, but allow the game to expand. If Halo 4 doesn't evolve, it'll just finish off what Reach started, which is to say, the franchise's reputation.
Of course I understand it has to evolve, the transition from Halo 2's gameplay elements to Halo 3's with equipment went over just fine with me. I have absolutely no problem with that, but advantageous abilities that anyone can use every 10 seconds that messes up the core values of Halo's gameplay is something that needs to be done away with.
Makes sense--I see the arguments, but never had any problems with AAs myself. Probably because I don't like relying on others in the first place so I always generally stuck with rumble pit.
Which is ironically less satisfying then team slayer in Reach imo for some reason, despite the lessened team orientation.
