You guys diss reach because you don't like change.
This kind of invalidates your argument... The fact that you acknowledge the fact that Reach has changed the fundimental Halo gameplay is a definite indicator that it's being pushed more towards the more generic FPS games on the market.
We don't need change. Halo's tried and true formula worked just fine from Halo CE - ODST, then Reach completely changed it. Equipment was tolerable in Halo 3 because it had a long respawn time (around 45 seconds to 1 minute), but AAs are utterly ridiculous. It convoluted the gameplay completely by removing strategic gameplay and the need for teamwork.
For example, with a jetpack, there's suddenly no point in getting the high ground because anyone can just fly up and take it. In the previous games you had to work with your team to take a strategic position, be it the Sniper spot on Lockout or the enemy base on Avalanche.
The fact that Master Chief wasn't in Reach has absolutely nothing to do with the dislike towards the gameplay, in fact my favourite Halo game is ODST and that only has 2 characters from the trilogy in it [Truth and Johnson] and they're only in it as cameos.
Change doesn't mean it has to go directly towards a more "generic fps game." I meant in general, it has changed. It's not a drastic change. Imo, the core gameplay is still halo. Ok, so we got armor abilities and assasination techniques. What's the big deal. Sprint was a big success, cloaking is fine although I prefer the classic power-up for invincibility. I tend to still smack armor lock people with my skillz xP so they don't bother me, but I have no prob with. Now jetpack must be done away with, but sprint is the best overall. Jetpack people cause me a little more trouble then armor lock.
Anways, I think it stilk kept the feel of halo. There aren't freakin ac-130s in the sky like cod. I liked the new halo in reach, it was refreshing. Oh, and I likr the old ranking system. . .
