yolo? -blam!- that! YOLTOSS!! You Only Live Twice or Some -blam!-

If a thread receives too many posts, it then error laden(as stated by Achronos) in which posts may vanish or post history may become erroneous.

Since that happens on an individual thread level, would there be any chances of that happening on the forum level. For example, The Flood now has over 32,000 pages of threads. At what point will that become a problem? What are the short and long term plans to correct any potential errors?

As for users with programming or website knowledge, do you know if this could cause any problems in regards to using this site?

It's probably related to threads only. When I go look back at extremely old threads I can always find them, and I've never seen a thread disappear except when it was deliberately deleted.

Other than disappearing posts? That depends on what those "Problems" Achronos mentioned are.

However, I doubt that they'll cause any serious (if noticeable) damage.

I'm sure it'll become a problem as we near an infinite...

but I'm sure that Bungie already has a backup plan, just encase it happens. So, I don't think we need to worry about it.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

As far as there being problem on The Flood, yes I have certainly noticed. But those are definitely user errors.

After this point, I'm making educated assumptions based on possibly inaccurate recollections and probably faulty reasoning.

I say you to both yes and no. I don't believe that threads will start disappearing, no, but I do believe their order in the listing can get messed up. I don't think it's a matter of the "system" losing the posts/threads entirely, simply changing the order. That last bit I'm sure of. Story time:
The Greasemonkey Script thread was almost entirely busted a few months ago. All of the hyperlinks were broken because Duardo was a n00b and used the hyperlinks in the format of &postID=#, which redirects to the format of &prepeater=x#postID (IIRC, mobile right now, bear with me). This was bad because, as Achronos pointed out, -blam!- gets messed up in big threads, so the &postID links wound up giving the wrong page number, about 18 less than it should be, if my memory serves correct. For instance, say postID 5 took you to prepeater=20#5, in Duardo's thread, it would have redirected you to prepeater=2#5, but post #5 isn't on page 2, so there's nothing to go to, so the link would be borked. I fixed all of those, anyway, and concluded that something happened to lose ~18 pages of posts (or just put them somewhere else).

Actually, reflecting on what I just said, I don't know whether to look at that as "everything fast-forwarded 18 pages" or "what the hell happened to the missing 18 pages". I suppose I just provided some hands-on experience with this issue that you can all recount and do with what you will, because I'm tired and don't feel like thinking on this. I'll come back tomorrow.
