That's comparable to saying that couches who couch pro basketball are proof that adults who don't play basketball will know about how to play basketball extremely well.
Not true: Erik Spoelstra, Mike D'Antoni. And they still make more money than any of us for it too.

Thank you for neither supporting nor contradicting my point?

Two brain dead coaches that hurt their teams and know nothing usefull to the game of basketball. These guys are the under 1 K/D oppinions of the NBA. What they say does not matter, unless you want to learn how to do things the wrong way.

no actually that would be way worse because it would be highly inaccurate.

imagine you play halo for the first time, obviously youre going to suck and you will probably do bad your first few games, so having everything ranked shows your skill level from the beginning and shows you increase overtime.

Now lets say it was split up to no stats=social and stats=ranked, youre gonna suck youre first few games, but instead of going to ranked right away you go into social to practice for a bit so you dont do as bad, then you go into ranked and you do better than you should have, thus your first game of stats is not an actually representation of your actual first game which you played in social.

pretty much splitting it up would make it really really inaccurate.

If there were no stats, im sure people would get along A LOT better. There wouldnt be so much constant e-peen measurement and derisive bickering.

I think the stats are always interesting to look at though. It provides for a way to analyze the in-game personalities of your opponents, see where one's own faults lie, and the like.

TL;DR: Stats are both a positive and negative motivator.

in my opinion, i don't mind showing each other's stats by it helps me learn on how to play better next time when i face an opponent and ...well it gives me bragging rights to all little noobs below me.

I intend to live forever, or die trying,

so far, so good.

I like my STATS.

And the best part is my stats are all ligit. No boosting like some people do. To improve their stats.

Ie) Lets play griefball and kill AFK Guest, but we will have them get 1 kill, so we don't get banned.

Many people do this.

I think should be same as Halo 3, as you had Ranked and Social Stats.

I think Halo 3 had everything right.

I think Halo 3 had everything right.

But social stats are pointless/meaningless and contradict the idea of "social."

How you perform in a playlist that's designed for casual matches and has ridiculously low trueskill, and therefore a high varying of skill-levels plotted against you, is just plain meaningless.

Halo 3 got the playlists right, but it shouldn't have tracked nearly as many stats in social.

So basically... Waypoint is pro-vanilla?

Posted by: Sentox6
Waypoint isn't pro-anything so much as they're just anti-intelligence.

One of the only stats that should be displayed is W/L, as it is by far the most important to any serious player.

Inaccurate in terms of what?

Naturally, yes.
Posted by: MarkFanous
so having everything ranked shows your skill level from the beginning and shows you increase overtime.
You want everything ranked? Yeah, good luck with that - that's never happening. Hopefully you meant that you want everything to be stat-tracked. If that's the case, stat-tracking does not show your progress over time; it usually deals with averages. Even if it was somehow configured to show progress over time, social playlists would negate that. Social playlists deal with very loose trueskill restrictions. That mean that one game you can be facing someone who is at, say, "skill level 1" while the next game you can be facing someone who is at "skill level 250." There is no way to track your progress in that regard because your opponents skills are always varying and thus your results will vary in a way that shows no regards to how you've improved.

"Better than you should have." No, it could potentially help you learn, which will start you out at a higher level. This is a problem because...? Oh, right - it isn't a problem - in ranked playlists the trueskill will level people out to the skill area that they belong. I suppose custom games are unfair as well because they can also provide practice that isn't recorded as ranked?Posted by: MarkFanous

Your first game in a ranked playlist represents where you placed in your first game of that ranked playlist. Not everyone starts out at the same skill level.

hold up is everyone talking about the same stats, im not alking about having everything ranked as in that 1-50 stuff, i meant like your service record like the one that shows your average overall k/d and your weapons and medals and stuff like that, those are the stats im referring to, i thought you guys wanted to get rid of that, if you guys arent talking about that then please disregard my whole argument

  • 01.24.2012 3:23 PM PDT

If we don't have stats people will find something else to brag about.
Removing stats would change nothing.

Same here. I know it's just a game, but I get worked up over my competitive KD. I'd rather have never known what it was and have more fun with the game.
