Subject: When the hell can the mods start locking these?

I'm talking about the "DeeJ vs. _____" or "Foman vs. ______" etc. threads. Y'know, the ones that are clearly whoring for employee/ninja posts; personally, I find them rather annoying and kind of polluting, in a sense. They used to get locked, but then the rule about specific users was removed, if I recall correctly.

While I agree that threads about specific users are sometimes okay, I think it's best to leave threads about employees/ninjas specifically out simply because PMs can often answer the question at hand. I also think that making a thread just for the golden septagon is idiotic.

ITT: Discuss whether or not you think we should make threads like those mentioned above lockable.

If B.net wasn't so dead I would agree, but who are we kidding, these topics are one of the few topics that people post in now...

They should lock complaint threads first. If you feel it breaks the rules, by all means, report it.

You know what would be super cool?

If everyone collectively and nonchalantly agreed that those threads were crap, and didn't reply to them because there's really nothing to reply with. The threads would sink to the bottom with 0 replies, only to be replaced by more interesting threads.

I wish everyone was me :<

This is really all you can do. I'm venturing more and more into the Flood for my threads but these don't seem too bad. When you've got 25 threads on a page and you can't find one interesting enough to engage in Person vs Person threads aren't the real problem.

  • 01.24.2012 8:52 PM PDT

@Learn: I'm not going to report it because I know it doesn't break the rules, that's what this thread is about. dat reading comprehension
@Blinkula: My bad.

I don't really care if they become prohibited or not because I don't really read those threads.

I think sometimes folks around here are just looking for something to complain about.

To be honest, I just added that last part so my entire post wasn't just "stop whining". But now you know so it's all good.

@ED: Meh. I guess you're right, but those threads are garbage.

@TU: Meh. I didn't get on here and go "hm what can I whine about today", I got on here and went "welp" and then whined about it here.

@Learn: Gotcha.

Key

>OP fails to realize that the majority of them are blatant satire.

>OP doesn't know how to have fun.

>OP clearly doesn't have the right mental state of brain mind to understand the complexities of the Deej vs. Achronos debate... one which will surely rage on for decades to come.

>OP misses the point.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Things have been pretty crummy lately. Bungie's community involvement is at an all-time low, virtually zero new content being generated by or for the community, member dissent is high and cross-title approval is rock bottom....

Everyone's just stressed, which is weird for an internet community, but I think it's true. We're restless, anxious, and just want something new. Without anything to distract the community, everyone is turning in on each other and pointing out faults.

Woah, now. I just came here for Popular Fusion and DNJTG.

Really, the point of those threads is just to get the people in question to post there. They really have nothing to do with the site/ community other than the fact that they are two community members/employees.

There have been way to many threads asking for employees to post of late.

Posted by: prometheus25I agree, it's sad to see this evolution. I hope it gets better with the arrival of Bungies new game. The darkness has really "hurt" this community.

This place is meant for us to have fun and enjoy ourselves, not nitpick everything to death to the point where you get "stressed."

The second part of my original statement is not a new trend. There's nothing wrong with offering solutions but most of the solutions offered involve the moderators locking things and banning people and when we do, people say we're huge jerkfaces on a powertrip. ;)

2/15/12: Francisco Porras, I'll miss you. Rest in Peace.

I can't stand them too.

It's also really annoying that that almost every thread on this forum becomes a hot topic just because we have nothing to do. The posts usually have nothing to do with the topic at hand; rather, it's just a reply to a ninja, furthering the off topic-ness.

I'm not going to disagree with you, because, frankly, you're right. The overall theme of my post wasn't about moderator behavior, but that of the community and its interests. Now, I'm not going to sit here on a soap box and spout my opinion. If people are curious, they can ask me.

The threads are on topic, if somewhat low brow. They give us something to discuss during a time when there isn't very much new to discuss. We have no Bungie game or major recent site updates to discuss, so if people want to discuss who is better at something then so what? It's a discussion.

  • 01.24.2012 9:22 PM PDT

I'm curious, Mr. P.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

I always had the impression that threads about specific users was prohibited. I'm not complaining though.

It's an arms race of attention.

For the past seven years, I've noticed that most of the time the driving force for posting is to be noticed, not to contribute.

It's why people post in all caps
It's why people try to announce "new" information instead of searching for it
It's why people post extreme opinions
It's why people are extremely critical bordering on hateful.

It's rare to find someone to want to give to the community. Instead, it's fame that they're after. And notoriety.
