Subject: Are we wasting our time suggesting anything?

Posted by: Achronos
You're probably feeling frustration because Bungie as a whole is currently "dark". I'll just leave you with this, though: considering there hasn't been a major functional change to bungie.net for a significant period of time... just what do you think the Web Team has been doing? If you knew that you had a window where you weren't releasing stuff (and therefore had an extended period of time to work compared to your usual time)... what would you do? :)
Something tells me that around E3 2012 this site is going to get a huge update.

Let me ask you a question, then. If no one on this site ever made any suggestions at all, would things on your end be any different than they are now?

Keep in mind that I'm not criticizing you. I don't know how to do your job, and I'm not going to pretend I do because that's a great way to look stupid. If I was in your shoes, I'd be doing exactly what you're doing right now, chances are.

I've said this before, I understand that I'm one of thousands of users and that my voice is no more important than theirs are. It's not easy to hear individual voices in this crowd.

Why are you reading my signature? Who actually opens these things and reads them!

And as always, SEND ME A PM. Please. Or really bad things will happen to you.

You can't read someone else's idea without forming one of your own. Therefore, every time Achronos (or any Bungie member) reads one of our threads we influence the design of the site (or future site depending on how big of an idea).

So, keep grabbing their attention with your feedback and suggestions and you will slowly take over their mind and control them like a master puppeteer.

Bungie has a habit of releasing site changes in large, bulky updates rather than small tweaks here and there. For as long as I've been here, it seems the web team is always working on "something big and awesome" which usually coincides with the release of a new game; often times you'll find that many community suggestions are incorporated into the big update package.

They also have a penchant for secrecy and surprises. Patience is a virtue :)

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I understand.

It's just hard to fully grasp when you see good ideas fall through the pages and flotsam being kept alive. Granted, it is not your responsibility to weigh and measure the merit of each thread, just want to communicate that we're just frustrated by it we're trying not to be big whiners.

Don't confuse listening to what you guys say with doing what you say or altering production schedules that are they way they are for good reasons.

At minimum, ideas presented here inform decisions and spark ideas - while we may not like a particular idea, it often can make us think about a particular problem a different way.

The big problem is that we can't really communicate what we think of most things because doing so is more complicated than a few forum posts. I guess what I'm saying is that you should treat your feedback more as a brainstorming session (where there are no bad ideas) rather than quibbling over implementation details (which is where a lot of you get hung up).

The tide is turning, brothers! Let us take our kingdom back!

Another question: If a member suggested an idea that the Bungie web team just had to implement, would you actually be allowed to?

  • 01.26.2012 2:06 AM PDT

Relax. I'd rather not piss this thing off.

-Master Chief

It takes sometime to impliment these changes to bnet, or any other website. Suggestions will always be taken into considration of course speaking from past experiences.

I was a finalist :P

Has there ever been an idea implemented just as a test, before being quickly restored to the sites former layout? I mean, the best way to collate data is to physically see it's effect, and not estimate the possible results. Then again, I guess it's more dependent on the idea, an how conveniet it is to test physically.
